Which Oscar-Nominated Actor Said That Tom Holland Is ‘The Best Spider-Man’?
Tom Holland is Spider-Man in the MCU
Holland has been acting for many years, getting his start in the theater in his native London. However, he’s moved stateside with his biggest part yet. In 2017, Holland first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: Civil War, portraying Peter Parker, also known as Spider-Man.
The actor has gone on to portray the character in two more Marvel films: Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He has also made two movies for Sony (with Marvel assisting behind-the-scenes): Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Holland is set to reprise this role twice more.
Other actors have played the part
As long as Holland has been in the spotlight as this character, he has been compared to two other brunette male actors: Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield? Why these celebrities? Because both of them had taken their own swing at playing Peter Parker.
First came Maguire, who portrayed the character in three films: Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3, all directed by Sam Raimi. After the third wasn’t well-received, Sony tried again. This time, Garfield held the role in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. They called it quits after just two movies this time.
Timothée Chalamet has been mistaken for Holland
Aside from playing a beloved superhero and his hair color, Holland doesn’t have much else in common with Maguire and Garfield. They’re older than him by 21 and 13 years, respectively, and have taken different directions since leaving the part behind. He and Garfield are both British, but again, the similarities don’t go much beyond that.
Do you know who he does have a bit in common with? Timothée Chalamet. Both are in their mid-20s, began performing early, and have musical and dancing skills that have helped boost their careers at such a young age. And interestingly enough, they look a bit alike, too.
Chalamet called Holland ‘the best Spider-Man’
As it turns out, Chalamet has been mistaken for Holland before. In a BBC Radio 1 interview, he said that sometimes, when people meet him, “They say, ‘You’re the Spider-Man… the Tom Holland guy.’ [And I say,] ‘No, that’s not me'” He corrected himself, saying, “I’ve never gotten ‘the Spider-Man guy,’ but I have gotten Tom.”
However, he doesn’t have a problem with this, calling it “awesome.” “You know, ’cause he’s a great guy. And a f***ing awesome Spider-Man.” Chalamet’s next words are a bit muffled by the interviewer, but it sounds as though he says, “[Probably] the best Spider-Man.”
What is Chalamet promoting now?
Chalamet is being interviewed right now for his new film, The King. In it, he portrays King Henry V (also known as Hal), as he takes the throne. The movie is based on Shakespeare’s plays about Henry IV and V. It will be available to stream on Netflix on Nov. 1.
Additionally, Chalamet has a few other big projects coming up. He portrays Laurie in the new adaptation of Little Women, which will be released in theaters on Christmas Day 2019. He also has two films due out in 2020: sci-fi remake Dune and Wes Anderson drama The French Dispatch.
