The Other Spider-Man Tom Holland Wants to Share the Screen With
Spider-Man is one of everyone’s favorite superheroes. And he has been for many years, since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man kicked off a nearly two-decade sprint of sequels and reboots featuring Peter Parker. Now, Tom Holland has been busy playing the character in the MCU, but there’s a crossover he’s interested in pursuing.
Tom Holland is Peter Parker in the ‘Spider-Man’ films
Of course, fans of the character typically know Spider-Man as Peter Parker. We’ve seen Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and now the young Holland take on the role. At present, Holland has played the character in more films than any of his predecessors, including Captain America: Civil War, two Avengers films, and two Spider-Man flicks.
Many are excited by Holland’s (at least, sort of) fresh take on the character. Holland is in his early 20s and more realistically plays a high school student the way Maguire and Garfield couldn’t. Getting to see him interact with and have a mentor-mentee relationship with Tony Stark/Iron Man is also part of what has made his portrayal unique.
Sony has also established an animated ‘Spider-Man’ universe
But Peter Parker isn’t the only Spider-Man there is. Fans have been clamoring for years to have Miles Morales or another version of Spidey take on the mantle. And that has finally happened with Sony’s animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which also establishes other “Spider-People” like Spider-Gwen.
The film may not have raked in Avengers: Endgame numbers at the box office, but it did very well. In fact, Into the Spider-Verse won many awards, including Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. Now, there is a sequel, a spin-off, and a TV series in the works to continue this universe.
Holland wants to act opposite this version of Spider-Man
In a recent GQ “Actually Me” interview, Holland read a question from a fan, who wanted to know if “both Miles and Peter can co-exist in the same universe” or would Peter have to be killed or written off before Miles can come into the picture in a live-action Spider-Man film.
Holland replied that he hopes he doesn’t get killed off, “because I’d love to share the screen with Miles. I think that’d be really cool.” He continued, “And I don’t want to die, because I really love playing Peter Parker, so that would kind of be a bit of a bummer.”
Will Tom Holland continue to play Spider-Man?
Is Holland done playing Peter Parker? Well, he doesn’t seem to think so. Unfortunately, it does look like won’t be making any crossovers in any of the upcoming MCU projects, after Sony and Marvel failed to reach an agreement regarding their shared property.
But Holland does have more opportunities ahead of him. Currently, rumors are circulating that he could make an appearance in the planned Venom sequel, which falls exclusively under Sony’s umbrella. And maybe, as he’s indicated above, there’s a future in which he could be Peter Parker acting as Miles Morales’ mentor in a new film, either a continuation of the animated universe or in a live-action setting.
