Outlander is enjoyed by so many fans because of the beautiful love story between Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall (Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe). Fans can’t seem to get enough of these characters. Even Balfe is moved by Jamie and Claire’s relationship. Here’s the sweet lesson she said she learned from the time-traveling couple.
What Caitriona Balfe did before Outlander
Before starring in the hit series Outlander, Balfe made her acting debut in the 2011 film Super 8. After that, she appeared in the 2012 mini-series The Beauty Inside. Her other acting credits include appearances in Lost Angeles (2012), Crush (2013), and Now You See Me (2013).
What Caitriona Balfe loves about playing Claire in Outlander
Balfe told Parade she loves that she can take a long journey through a character’s life. When the show began, Claire was in her late 20s. As the show progresses, we get to see the character in her mid-50s. Balfe said she has enjoyed seeing Claire mature over the years:
That has been the great thing of playing this character. We’ve taken her as a young woman – she was definitely in her late 20s – and her husband was the person she deferred to in so many ways. Claire has grown so much through this. Claire is now in her mid-50s. It has been incredible to walk that life with this character and watch her grow. Claire was a very hot-headed and quick-tempered person. Her need for justice and her need to be able to say something in the moment hasn’t changed, but what has been interesting is to watch her become wiser and not as tempestuous and to learn a little calm.
That’s the beauty of being able to do a show. We’ve been at it 6-1/2 years. You get to let these characters evolve in a very organic way. I think Sam and I have loved being given that opportunity to take these characters on such a journey.
The sweet lesson Caitriona Balfe learned from Outlander’s Jamie and Claire
During her interview with Parade, Balfe said she learned a truly beautiful lesson from Jamie and Claire’s relationship. The actress said she took away the lesson that love is worth fighting for. “The thing I love about it is it shows love is worth fighting for. I think that is something we explore continuously in the show.”
