‘Outlander’ Season 5: Sam Heughan’s Jamie Caught Cuddling up to Someone Other Than Claire

Outlander’s Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) may have just found himself a new friend. Promotional photos for the upcoming season show Jamie getting a little cuddly with a new member of the Fraser clan – and it is completely adorable. Although Jamie isn’t snuggling with Claire (Caitriona Balfe), fans have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Jamie cuddles with Adso

The photo in question shows Jamie looking super cute with a tiny kitten, which book readers know as Adso.

The cat is set to make his grand appearance in season 5 of Outlander, which is largely based on Diana Gabaldon’s novel, The Fiery Cross. According to TV Line, Jamie gives Claire the kitten as a gift, though it is unclear if that is how things will play out on the show.

Whatever happens, we cannot wait to see Jamie and Adso in action. I mean, look at how adorable they look in the photo!

As fans of the books are well aware, Adso becomes a mainstay at Fraser’s Ridge after his introduction in The Fiery Cross. With Jamie and Claire establishing their roots on Fraser’s Ridge next season, Adso will probably pay a big part in the family’s homestead.

What’s ahead for season 5 of ‘Outlander’?

The cast and crew have been pretty open about the upcoming season of Outlander. We know that family will be a major theme as Jamie and Claire continue to build a community in North Carolina, but some of that family loyalty will be tested right from the start.

At the end of season 4, Jamie received orders from the governor of North Carolina to track down a rebellious group lead by his godfather, Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix). The request is tricky for Jamie, who is obviously loyal to Murtagh but does not want to rock the boat with the governor.

To make things even more complicated, Murtagh and Aunt Jocasta (Maria Doyle Kennedy) hooked up last season, and the promo photos seem to suggest that she is also getting involved in the militia.

We do not know how things will shake out between Jamie and Murtagh, but the stakes are high with his family in the balance.

‘Outlander’ producer talks about the new season

Apart from the promotional images, producers recently released a teaser trailer for season 5 of Outlander. The trailer went a long way to helping fans deal with what has been a long Droughtlander and offered us a good look at what’s ahead.

Ahead of New Year celebrations, producers also revealed what the opening credits will look like in season 5, and we cannot wait to see what the new season has in store.

Although we are still a few months away from the premiere, Outlander executive producer Matthew B. Roberts recently opened up about what Jamie and Claire are up to this season.

Without giving away too many details, Roberts revealed that the show’s new location manager has done an amazing job making Scotland look like North Carolina. He also teased that fans might get to see more of Aunt Jocasta’s estate, which is super exciting news.

“If we go to [Jocasta’s] estate and film there, I want to go to every section of that estate …our new locations manager is fantastic and knows Scotland well,” Roberts shared. “He’s been coming at it with fresh eyes and we’ve really found a few amazing new places that I’m really excited to show the fans. Breathtaking is the word I used when I saw it the first time.”

What storylines will be featured in season 5?

While producers have done a good job setting the stage for season 5 of Outlander, many of the smaller details have not been revealed. We know that it will be based on The Fiery Cross, but exactly which scenes will make it into the show are anyone’s guess.

Until we get official confirmation, some fans are hoping that the upcoming season includes a discussion on contraception that was featured in the book.

In The Fiery Cross, Roger (Richard Rankin) gives Brianna (Sophie Skelton) a small flower bouquet. Jamie sees this as a romantic gesture, but it turns out the flowers are herbs that can work as a natural contraceptive.

After welcoming their first child last season (and all the drama that went into that), Brianna is not looking to expand her family anytime soon. This provides Claire with an opportunity to discuss the issue with Jamie, who is a little behind in modern medicine.

The new season of Outlander is set to premiere February 16 on Starz.
