‘Outlander’ Star Sam Heughan Just Announced A Major New Character For Season 5

Filming for Season 5 of Outlander is still underway in Scotland and Sam Heughan just revealed a new major character for the upcoming season. Taking to social media, the actor posed alongside the newest member of the Outlander family: a cat named Adso. Fans went into a frenzy after the announcement and have been waiting a long time to see Adso in action.

Who is Adso?

In Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander books, Jamie (Heughan) discovers Adso on the roadside and brings him home to show Claire (Caitriona Balfe), who immediately bonds with the furry creature. The couple names the cat Adso after another feline in the Fraser family. Jamie’s mom also had a cat named Adso, which brings everything full circle.

Fans have been waiting a long time to see Adso come to life on the small screen. After Starz posted the adorable photo of Heughan and Adso, fans expressed their excitement about seeing the Fraser’s cat on the show next season.

Some fans even cropped Heughan out of the pic because they could not get over how cute he looked. Clearly, seeing Adso for the first time was pretty big news in the Outlander world.

“Adso is ADORABLE!!! It’s what we’ve been waiting for to see. Could we also see wee Adso with his Mama?,” one fan commented, while another added, “THAT SWEET FLUFFY ANGEL!!!!!!!!!”

Rollo makes the blooper reel for ‘Outlander’ Season 4

Speaking of beloved animals on the show, Rollo made the blooper reel in the DVD and Blu-Ray release of Season 4. The dog, who was introduced last season as Ian Murray’s’ (John Bell) pet, is apparently not the easiest pooch to direct on set.

In fact, Rollo was just as unpredictable as the horses on the show, which makes him even more endearing to fans. The show will release the blooper footage on the DVD and Blue-ray release May 28.

The clip also explores how much effort was put into training the dog that plays Rollo. Outlander executive producers Matthew B. Roberts and Maril Davis started the training process a few years ago, with the goal of getting Rollo ready for the cameras in Season 4. Bell also talked about how he developed a bond with Rollo on set, something that will definitely be useful for his character in future seasons.

Who else is new in Season 5 of ‘Outlander’?

Adso is not the only new character that will join Outlander in Season 5. Heughan recently revealed that Aisha Tyler, who is most famous for playing the part of Dr. Charlie Wheeler on Friends, had visited the set and teased that she could appear on the show in the near future.

Apart from that, the show has been tight lipped about new characters in the upcoming season, though Heughan and Balfe both revealed a few details about what is ahead.

According to Express, Balfe shared how Fraser’s Ridge will continue to be a central part of the Outlander story moving forward. Heughan also added that home and family will be two themes that will continue to be explored as the series heads into its fifth season. Season 5 of Outlander is based on the fifth book in Gabaldon’s series, titled The Fiery Cross.

Starz has not announced when the new season of Outlander will premiere, though the show is expected to return sometime next year.

‘Outlander’ is finally on Netflix

Although we have a few more months until Season 5 of Outlander premieres on Starz, the series is finally available on Netflix. The first two seasons of the hit drama just arrived on the streaming platform.

This is the first time Outlander has been on Netflix and fans can expect the other two seasons to arrive at some point as well. It is unclear when the other seasons will become available, though they are expected to arrive shortly before the premiere of Season 5.

Netflix announced the arrival of Outlander in April. The network branched out to another streaming service in the hopes of drawing more fans. Given how many people subscribe to the streaming giant, Starz hopes that its Netflix audience will make the jump to its network for Season 5. In the meantime, fans can expect more revelations to come as the cast and crew are hard at work filming the new season.
