‘Parasite’ Fans Slam Donald Trump for Mocking Oscar Win
Donald Trump loves a little controversy and has an appetite to feel liked and accepted. Hollywood is an industry that has consistently bashed his policies since the beginning. During a political rally, he took several jabs at the Academy Awards this year and his enabling constituents were happy to applaud his sarcasm. The White House resident had a problem with Parasite taking home the Best Picture accolade because it’s from South Korea.
“How bad were the Academy Awards this year?” he asked the crowd. “The winner is… a movie from South Korea! What the hell was that all about?”
“We got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of that, they give them best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know,” he continued trolling. “Let’s get Gone With the Wind. Can we get Gone With the Wind back, please?”
Trump went on to say that he believed they were awarded the Best Foreign Film category and asked, “Did this ever happen before?”
Parasite taking home the top award of the Oscar night was historic as it was the first film not in the English-language to take it. Director Bong Joon-ho also took an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and Best International Film.
Trump also took a dig at Brad Pitt who at the award ceremony said, “They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week. I’m thinking maybe Quentin [Tarantino] does a movie about it — in the end, the adults do the right thing.”
“He got up and said little wise-guy statements. He’s a little wise-guy,” Trump said of the Best Actor winner.
Trump gets trolled
The best way to deal with trolls is to troll them back and that is exactly what the distributor of Parasite did.
“Understandable, he can’t read,” the verified Twitter account posted, mocking Trump, as the movie was subtitled in English.
Fans of the South Korean film went on to slam Trump for mocking Parasite.
“He’s only a fan of Gone With the Wind because it has the same name as his haircut,” a fan wrote.
“Just when you think the guy couldn’t possibly be a bigger douche,” another fan added.
“Donny seriously thinks he is a comedian,” a Twitter user said. “Someone please give him a show or a movie role on the condition he resigns.”
“He’s not even funny and they laugh. Dumbing down of America,” another Twitter user commented.
Martin Scorsese appreciates Bong Joon-ho
One Hollywood director that does respect what Joon-ho did in the cinema was Martin Scorsese. The Parasite winner recently said that The Irishman director sent him a letter congratulating him on his accolades.
“This morning I got a letter from Martin Scorsese,” Joon-ho said in a press conference. “I can’t tell you what the letter said because it’s something personal. But towards the end he wrote, ‘You’ve done well. Now rest. But don’t rest for too long.’ He continued by saying how he and other directors were waiting for my next movie.”
Joon-ho’s next project will be highly-sought after his historic wins at the Academy Awards this year.
