The Beatles are award-winning songwriters, even collaborating on new songs during Disney+’s The Beatles: Get Back. Some members were more punctual than others, with Paul McCartney even joking that he would kick another Beatle out of the band for being so late.

Some listeners know them for songs like “In My Life,” “Strawberry Fields Forever,” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”

Disney+ released their original documentary series The Beatles: Get Back, debuting never-before-seen footage of John Lennon, McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr as they rehearsed for one of their final live performances.

That was their rooftop concert at the Apple Corps headquarters at London’s 3 Savile Row, where Ringo Starr made it a point to always be on time for their rehearsal.

John Lennon was late to rehearsal with the other members of The Beatles

With only days until their rooftop concert, these performers met up almost every day to rehearse and write new songs. The issue was that Lennon wasn’t always punctual, as noted by the other Beatles. Ringo, on the other hand, was “never late.”

“Lennon’s late again,” McCartney said while plugging in his bass. Ringo, who sat next to him, said that between 10 and 11 “is the time.”

“[I’m] thinking of getting rid of him,” McCartney joked, to which Ringo responded, “I’m never late.”

“He’s never late. He’s a bloody pro, is Ringo,” McCartney said. While they waited, desperate for new material, McCartney and Harrison started playing their instruments. Eventually, McCartney landed on the beginning of what would be one of The Beatles’ most successful singles. That was “Get Back.”

Due to creative differences, Lennon didn’t play on three of Harrison’s White Album originals as the band slowly inched toward a public split. According to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, the singer is also notably absent on “Here Comes the Sun.” The band even noted this distance during the documentary special.

Punctuality aside, Ringo Starr made a name for himself as a Beatle and as a solo artist. He released Ringo Starr and Friends and appeared in several interviews describing his experience as a drummer and songwriter. Are McCartney and Ringo Starr still friends, though? These collaborators sometimes FaceTime each other, unable to meet in person often.

The Beatles created several original songs while rehearsing for their ‘Get Back’ rooftop concert

Thanks to this performance, Beatles fans got several original songs. “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Get Back,” “I’ve Got A Feeling,” “One After 909,” and “Dig a Pony” are featured songs in the Disney+ original. They’re also available on streaming platforms like Spotify.

In between creating new songs, The Beatles jammed out to classics by other artists. That includes impromptu covers of “Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)” by Bob Dylan, followed by “I Shall Be Released” by the same artist.

The Beatles: Get Back is available exclusively on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+.
