The Bravest Photos That Carrie Underwood Has Posted of Her Scar
Carrie Underwood took a major spill in late 2017, falling down the front steps of her home. She ended up with a broken wrist, plus a gash above her lip that required 40 to 50 stitches and took months to heal. It took Underwood some time to feel ready to get back in front of a camera. But in recent months, she’s revealed more about what happened — and she’s even shown off her scar in a few recent photos.
Ahead, discover the bravest photos that Carrie Underwood has posted of her scar.
Carrie Underwood shared a #FBF photo from filming the ‘Love Wins’ video
Carrie Underwood recently posted a #FBF photo that showed her during filming for the “Love Wins” music video. Fox News notes that for months after her fall, “Underwood was reluctant to show her face in public and even avoided head-on photos on her social media.” As the singer told Redbook, “Any time someone gets injured, it looks pretty bad in the beginning, and you’re like, ‘What is this going to wind up like?’ You just don’t know.”
She added, “It was also a perception thing, because I look at myself [now] and I see it quite a bit, but other people are like, ‘I wouldn’t have even noticed.’ Nobody else looks at you as much as you think they do. Nobody notices as much as you think they will, so that’s been nice to learn.” Underwood also told Redbook that she’s contended with many rumors about her injury. “It’s a little sad, because the truth is just as interesting. I wish I’d gotten some awesome plastic surgery to make this [scar] look better. But I try not to worry too much about it.”
Underwood’s first photo after her fall showed her in profile
The first photo that Carrie Underwood shared of herself after her accident showed the singer in profile, taking the spotlight off any scarring around her lips. People reports that Underwood also said at one point during her recovery, “I have a dedicated team of professionals who can spackle and paint and paste.” She added, “Every day I’m feeling a little more back to normal.”
Underwood also said that on the night of her fall, “I thought I just busted my lip. Then I walked inside and took the dog leashes off and took my coat off and went to go survey the damage and was like, ‘Oh, no!’ I’m acting very calm about it now, but … it wasn’t pretty.” She added, “I chipped my tooth but it was just my skin, thank the Lord. Stitches and all that stuff.” Asked where her 40 to 50 stitches were placed, she answered, “Around my mouth.”
She shared another photo that seemed to show her scar
In spring 2018, Carrie Underwood posted another photo that seemed to show a scar — even if you had to squint to see it. Fox News spoke to plastic surgeon David Cangello, who didn’t treat Underwood, but explained that when someone experiences a facial injury, the initial swelling can look more serious than the actual injury. According to Cangello, that could be why Underwood initially warned fans that the “freak accident” left her “not quite looking the same.”
He said, “After the injury, there is a lot of distortion of the facial tissue due to swelling, and it can make it look like there’s going to be some permanent deformity. But in time, when all that swelling goes, and the scar has a chance to fade, you discover that you look quite normal.”
Cangello speculated that though Underwood hasn’t said much about the extent of her injuries, it’s likely that “the lacerations were repaired. . . and once all that resolved, the fact that [the scar] looks quite unremarkable now, leaves me to believe the injury probably wasn’t beyond that.”
