Photos of People of Interest in Jussie Smollett Attack Have Been Released
According to reports, Smollett had been walking in Chicago on Tuesday when two men began yelling slurs at him that were of both a racial and homophobic nature. The men then beat Smollett, poured an unknown substance on him and put a rope around his neck.
The actor’s manager Brandon Z. Moore was reportedly on the phone with Smollett while the attack was happening. The manager alleges that he heard MAGA comments along with the previously mentioned slurs.
After the attack, the actor was able to return to his apartment where his manager called the police. When they arrived, Smollett was covered in cuts on his face and the rope was still around his neck, according to reports from Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Chicago police.
The actor then checked himself into Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He is now in good condition.
New Pictures Released
In the search for answers as to who these attackers were, police began looking for surveillance videos. Initially, the only photo that they could recover was from security cameras in a Subway near where the crime
But police were confident that they would find more videos and photos.
“The Streeterville neighborhood where the alleged attack occurred has a very high density of city and private surveillance cameras,”
Though police haven’t been able to find any videos of the actual attack, they have found pictures of “persons of interest.”
Guglielmi tweeted the photos on Wednesday night.
“Photos of people of interest who were in area of the alleged assault & battery of Empire cast member,” the tweet read. “While video does not capture an encounter, detectives are taking this development seriously & wish to question individuals as more cameras are being reviewed.”
Reaction to the Assault
When news broke of Smollett’s attack, both fans and other celebrities alike were outraged and hurt by the news.
Representatives from Empire, the show Smollett is currently on, were quick to share their condolences.
“We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our Empire family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night,” a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment told CNN. “We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. Empire’s co-creator and executive producer Danny Strong also tweeted about the incident.
“I’m deeply horrified and saddened by the racist and homophobic attacks against @JussieSmollett,” he wrote. “He is a kind and profoundly talented soul whom I respect with all my heart.
