Piers Morgan Mocks Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Son’s Name, Calls It ‘Silly’
Piers Morgan is never one to shy away from voicing his opinion and he’s got something to say about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby’s name. Basically, he’s not a fan. Ever opinionated, Morgan took to Twitter to share his reaction about their newborn’s name, Archie.
Celebrities commented on Baby Sussex’s arrival
Many celebrities shared their reactions to the baby’s arrival on Twitter, with Victoria Beckham, a friend of the couple who was at their wedding, tweeting: “Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex #PrinceHarry and #MeghanMarkle on their baby boy! So happy for you both. x VB.”
Former One Direction star Liam Payne tweeted: “Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of your baby boy. So happy for the both of you.”
Chrissy Teigen had a little fun with the baby’s name, tweeting excitedly: “ARCHIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!”
Michelle Obama shared this message: “Congratulations, Meghan and Harry! Barack and I are so thrilled for both of you and can’t wait to meet him. #RoyalBaby.”
Markle’s former TV show Suits’ Twitter account tweeted: “The entire #Suits family sends their congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, on the birth of their baby boy!”
Piers Morgan weighs in as well
Morgan, of course, had something to say as well, but it wasn’t quite so congratulatory and definitely critical. He tweeted: “So the royal couple, in a striking blow for diversity & feminism, have given their son one of the most popular white middle-class first names, Archie, and a second name, Harrison, that was chosen because it stands for ‘Harry’s son’ (I’m serious..). Hilarious.”
He added: “I like ‘Archie’, but calling him Harrison ‘because he’s Harry’s son’ is just silly.”
Why did Prince Harry and Markle name their baby Archie?
The couple hasn’t yet disclosed whether or not there is any special meaning behind the name, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, but there are naturally a bunch of theories. Immediately, fans of the show Riverdale and the Archie comics weighed in.
The series’ creator, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, took to Twitter to share his thoughts, explaining: “Best. Crossover. Ever. #Riverdale goes ROYAL. Congrats to the Meghan and Harry #archie!”
Likewise, many people believed the couple had the Archie comics in mind when they came up with their baby’s name. This idea is supported by a former friend of Markle’s who shared that the Duchess used to collect the comic books.
She told The Sun: “She would spend her weekends going to vintage stores to buy the comics. This could be a little nod to her dad. It was him who instilled that hobby into her, that was their activity together. He would drive her around and also surprise her with vintage volumes. She had at least 100. This may be a way to reach out to her dad, even after all that’s happened.”
The friend shared that Markle had a cat named Archie as well, explaining: “Doria rescued Archie and he became an important part of the household. Meghan loved playing with him and she was always talking about him to her friends. It’s no surprise she named her new baby Archie. She loved that cat.”
