‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ star MeKai Curtis said his character will feel ‘in control’

In an interview with Gulf News, Power Book III: Raising Kanan star MeKai Curtis spoke about his character, Kanan. He said his character will feel “in control” in the series. He also said he was looking forward to it.

“He’s in such a wild spot in the world, just in terms of his age and a lot of the social issues he’s dealing with at school and social issues he’s dealing with just walking down the street,” he said. “Power to him would mean having control of all of that — being calm within the storm of things happening around him.”

Curtis also said he felt a “surge of energy” when he was playing the young Kanan.

The story focuses on the character’s relationships

As explained by Express, Power Book III: Raising Kanan focuses on Kanan’s relationship with his mother. This relationship is at the crux of how Kanan became the show’s villain.

And MeKai Curtis said the character of Raquel Thomas (played by Patina Miller) is more essential than fans realize.

“Patina and just her leadership and, you know, making sure everybody was safe – there’s this big family dynamic that we have going on,” he said. “We would go to her house or just meet up at random places, spend that much more time around the family just catch up.”

What else can we expect from the show?

Power Book III: Raising Kanan won’t feature Ghost or Tommy or any of the other beloved characters that fans of the original series came to know.

That’s because series creator Courtney Kemp said that this story is specifically Kanan’s story.

Fans of the show will learn more about his backstory here.
