‘Power’ Star Naturi Naughton: Is She Single or Married?
Naturi Naughton has had a steady career in music and acting, first as part of the girl group 3LW, then in theater and film productions, and now on television. When she’s not busy playing Tasha St. Patrick on Power, she’s busy working on other projects and being a mom.
Though Naughton doesn’t reveal much about her personal life, fans love her on the hit show and wonder if she’s romantically involved with anyone. Here’s what is known about her love life.
Naughton became a mom two years ago
In 2017, Naughton welcomed her first child, a baby girl named Zuri with her then-boyfriend Benjamin. They ended their relationship two years ago but are amicable. The two are co-parenting peacefully but Naughton told Essence that she stayed in the relationship for too long:
“I don’t want to be married if it’s not the right marriage and the right person. Pressure is really induced by living up to other people’s expectations, and instead of trying to live up to somebody else’s expectations for me, I just need to be happy.
A lot of people think that marriage is the quintessential success, but it’s not if the marriage is not grounded in the right foundation. I went through a lot of feelings of inadequacy about why did my life not turn out to be the perfect picture story, but that’s just not what was written for me.”
She also mentioned that she kept her split from her ex a secret from the public for two years because of shame. They split a few months after the birth of baby Zuri. Naughton added that her ex is a wonderful father and they both work hard to instill confidence in their daughter.
Fans suspected Naughton was dating a co-star
Rumors circulated earlier this year that Naughton was seeing her former Power co-star, Sinqua Walls. He played the role of Shawn in the show, and the two shared some love scenes together in earlier seasons. But they’ve been photographed together and spotted out here and there, leading some fans to speculate they’re more than friends, per BET. Neither have confirmed a romance.
For now, Naughton is focused on self-empowerment
To help herself move on from her long-term relationship, Naughton went back to one of her first loves: music. She wrote a single called “Stay Too Long” and is getting back into creating new sounds.
As someone who’s worked in entertainment for years, Naughton has had her share of negative experiences and is now involved with a new campaign to help empower black women in the industry.
According to Essence, she’s one of the voices of the #RedefineBlack movement, which is in partnership with DoSomething.org, Procter and Gamble, and My Black is Beautiful.
“My journey and my struggle as a Black woman, particularly as a Black actress in this business, I’ve had to come up against some of those stereotypes being a Black actress. And just being a Black woman in the world and being told sometimes that I wasn’t marketable or wasn’t commercial or my look wasn’t what is perceived to be beautiful.”
She wants to be part of the change that knocks out stereotypes in Hollywood. As far as her love life is concerned, it sounds like she’s singled and focused on parenting and work.
