According to Cosmopolitan, for most of their 15-year marriage, Princess Charles was having an affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, who he had known long before ever meeting Princess Diana. The late princess was well aware of her husband’s infidelity, going so far as to confront Parker-Bowles and describing her as the “third person in the marriage.”

As someone who was extremely close to Prince Charles, Lord Mountbatten would have been able to advise him that he was marrying someone who was just not right for him, and Princ Charles would have taken him quite seriously. Although Princess Diana and Prince Charles had a very tough relationship, had they not been married at all, the royal family wouldn’t be what it is today.
