Since their engagement announcement on Nov. 27, 2017, several details have been released about the upcoming nuptials between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. We know when the two are getting married, where they will say their vows, and now, we also know that some famous faces will be in their wedding party — including Harry’s nephew, Prince George, and niece, Princess Charlotte.
Here is what we learned about who else will and won’t be in the wedding, as well as more on the role the young royals will have.
Kate Middleton won’t be in the wedding party
While the prince and princess will be in the wedding, their mother, Kate Middleton, will not. Harry’s sister-in-law will not be a bridesmaid for several reasons.
One is that at the time of the wedding, in May 2018, the Duchess of Cambridge will have just given birth to her third child, so she’ll likely be very busy tending to her little ones. And, another reason is that as the future queen, Middleton does not want to upstage the bride. The latter is the same reason she did not participate in her sister Pippa Middleton’s wedding last May.
Rumored bridesmaids for Markle
Although the duchess won’t be participating in the royal wedding, there are rumors of who could be bridesmaids for Markle. We know that the actress has some pretty famous friends like Serena Williams and Priyanka Chopra, who she may want in her wedding.
But there are also reports that she could select one of her longtime pals, Jessica Mulroney or Lindsay Jill Roth, as bridesmaids since Markle was in both of their weddings. In any case, royal protocol is a little tricky when establishing a wedding party and may not be up to the bride or groom.
Harry breaks royal protocol with his best man
The Sun noted that according to royal protocol, Markle cannot have any of her friends serve as bridesmaids since most royal brides do not have adult bridesmaids. Harry also isn’t supposed to have his brother, Prince William, alongside him as best man.
Of course, for their union in 2011, William and Kate ignored the royal rule book as Middleton’s sister was a bridesmaid and Harry was the best man. Therefore, many believe that Harry will do the same and choose to have his older brother by his side during his wedding.
Who Markle wants walking her down aisle
Since Markle and Harry have been doing things their way versus the royal way, we should probably expect the unexpected when it comes to their wedding ceremony.
A source told Us Weekly that there will be some “unconventional surprises” and that Markle prefers that her mother, not her father, be the one who walks her down the aisle on her big day.
No chief bridesmaid
Markle will also be breaking royal tradition when it comes to her bridal party as she will be having a maid of honor rather than a chief bridesmaid.
“She’s not picked a chief bridesmaid, she’s chosen a maid of honor,” an insider revealed.
However, there’s no official word yet on who that is, but many have speculated that it will be Markle’s longtime pal and stylist Jessica Mulroney.
Famous faces will be on the guest list
Even if they’re not in the actual wedding, we can still expect to see plenty of celebrities and high-profile people attend this royal affair.
Some of the names featured on the guest list will likely include Williams, Chopra, Sir Elton John, Cara Delevingne, James Blunt, Joss Stone, the Beckhams, the Obamas, and Markle’s former Suits castmates.
Roles for Prince George and Princess Charlotte
The Sunday Times has reported that Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be in their uncle’s wedding and will serve as a pageboy and bridesmaid, respectively. A spokesperson for Kensington Palace said, “The wedding will be a family event. You can expect the family to be involved.”
The little ones will reportedly walk up the aisle behind Markle.
Young royals already have wedding-party experience
The kids are pretty much seasoned pros when it comes to being a part of weddings. Just last May, they were each in the same roles at their Aunt Pippa’s wedding, and of course, they looked so adorable that they almost stole the spotlight.
We’re sure they’ll be serving up more royal cuteness at Harry’s wedding.
The newest addition to the family could join siblings
Speaking of cuteness and the royal tots, their new little brother or sister could also join the wedding party in some capacity.
Since the Duchess of Cambridge is due in April, the newest addition to the family may have a specified role in Markle and Harry’s wedding party as well.
