Prince Harry was once the most-liked royal among the British public, and he was known around the world as the one who could relate to commoners the best. He wasn’t perfect, but he shaped up and turned into someone fit for the royal family. However, ever since he married Meghan Markle, it seems he’s had trouble staying in the public’s good graces. A series of controversies have plagued him and his wife, and one royal expert suggests the prince needs to act more like his mother in order to win over the public.

Royal rumors started to swirl as soon as Harry married Meghan

Harry waited years to find love. But for some reason, as soon as he did, things started to get rocky in his relationship with the public. Harry and Meghan started dating in 2016, and everything was a whirlwind from there. The two dated for less than a year and a half before their engagement in 2017, and they wed in May 2018. But as soon as they were married, royal rumors started. There were stories that suggested Harry and William’s relationship was being torn apart, and that Meghan and Kate’s reported royal feud was to blame. Meghan and Harry’s staff began quitting at a surprising rate, leading to rumors that the two were extremely difficult to work with.

He’s been caught up in various royal controversies, from privacy to environmentalism

The controversy didn’t stop with the royal family rumors. Over the summer, Harry and Meghan received criticism for trying to keep their lives so private, despite working for the people. And Meghan’s photo ban at Wimbledon didn’t do anything to benefit either of their reputations. Then, the public learned that Harry and Meghan had flown on four private jets over 11 days, which seemed to contradict their views on bettering the environment; the news didn’t go over well with the public. To save face, Harry and Meghan chose to fly commercial to South Africa.

South Africa • After months of planning, Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in South Africa today for their official Royal Tour of Southern Africa – focusing on community, grassroots leadership, women’s and girls’ rights, mental health, HIV/AIDS and the environment. Their first stop was to the incredible Justice Desk Project which works to make women and children safer in Nyanga. It’s an issue of vital importance in South Africa and across the globe, their Royal Highnesses wanted to learn first-hand about the issues people face and the work being done on the ground. One of the workshops Their Royal Highnesses saw was the Mbokodo project which provides self-defense classes and female empowerment workshops to young girls who are overcoming major traumas. This project's powerful motto is "wathint' abafazi wathint' imbokodo" which means "you strike a woman; you strike a rock" • “And just on one personal note, may I just say that while I am here with my husband as a member of The Royal Family, I want you to know that for me I am here with you as a mother, as a wife, as a woman, as a woman of colour and as your sister.” – The Duchess of Sussex • @TheJusticeDesk Project is supported by the @Queens_Commonwealth_Trust and works with community leaders in Nyanga, with the firm belief that if you can change the mindset of a community, you can change the mindset of a country. #SussexRoyalTour #RoyalVisitSouthAfrica • Photo ©️PA images / SussexRoyal – video SussexRoyal

One royal expert suggests Harry needs to act more like Princess Diana

Harry still has millions of fans. And many people adore Meghan, too. But it’s no secret the two have taken some heat from the public over the last few months. According to Express, one royal expert suggests that Harry should start acting a bit more like his mother. Diana was always poised and polished, and no matter what was going on in her personal life, the public always adored her. “Princess Diana regularly used commercial flights,” Ingrid Seward of Majesty Magazine told Express. “What’s more, I’m sure Diana would tell him to stop using L.A. speak.” Seward also hinted that Harry should remain humbler.

Harry and Meghan’s trip to Africa might put them back in the public’s good graces

Right now, Harry and Meghan are on a tour of South Africa, where they are working to promote various charities, from conservation and anti-poaching programs to helping children living with HIV and AIDS. Archie Harrison has joined his mother and father on the trip, and the public is seeing a side of Harry and Meghan they haven’t seen in nearly a year, since the two haven’t traveled together on a major excursion since their trip to Australia and New Zealand last fall. Hopefully this trip will remind people of all the positive work the two do, and the public will start to show more respect for them.
