Throughout Meghan’s pregnancy, many people were convinced that she would be giving birth to a little girl, and betters were speculating on whether or not the couple would somehow honor Diana with her name. Those who correctly predicted a boy thought that the name Spencer was a definite possibility, as it was the last name of Harry’s mother.

It was quite a surprise, although a good one when it was announced that Meghan and Harry had named their son Archie Harrison. It would appear as if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex simply liked the name since the moniker is unique to the royal family. His middle name, Harrison, is much more easily explained, with the sentimental meaning “Harry’s son”.

What were some other names considered for Baby Archie?

Whenever a new royal baby is on the way, a huge part of the fun is anticipating what the name will be. Many betters were predicting names such as Alexander or even Albert for a boy, and for a girl, Elizabeth was a top contender. A lot of fans were even thinking that Meghan and Harry would choose to honor Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, by using her name as one of the baby’s middle names.

Middle names that were in the running for a boy were Philip, after Harry’s grandfather, and Charles, after his beloved father. Although the couple didn’t use any of these names, we really can’t deny that the name Archie Harrison is an excellent choice, as it is cute and meaningful, and seems to suit the newborn quite well.

In the few times that we have seen Harry since the birth of his son, he has always been super excited. On the very day of Archie’s birth, Harry spoke of the newborn glowingly, and even though he admitted that he was functioning on very little sleep, he couldn’t have been happier. Chances are, the prince’s face lights up with delight at the very mention of his new son, and who could blame him? Even though we haven’t seen much of the baby, there is no denying just how special the boy actually is.
