Prince Harry Is an ‘Amazing Father’ and Is ‘Really Happy’ to be a Dad

Prince Harry is definitely cut out for fatherhood to baby Archie, according to his close friend, Nacho Figueras. Harry’s professional polo player friend dished on how the new dad is taking to his role with ease, sharing that he is “really, really happy.”

Prince Harry is an ‘amazing father’

Figueras spoke with PEOPLE at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in Liberty State Park in New Jersey this weekend and, of course, there were questions about Prince Harry.

Figueras shared, “He seems to be really, really happy so I’m very happy and excited for him.”

He added: “I’ve been saying this for a long time, he’s a person that loves children. I’ve seen him interact with children for a very long time in all these things that we do in Africa so I’m not surprised he’s an amazing father.”

Figueras is a big fan of Prince Harry

This latest commentary from Figueras comes just a week after he posted a tribute to his royal friend on Instagram, sharing that he is “honored to be your friend.”

He wrote: “The world thinks they know everything about this man. I have been fortunate enough to spend enough time over the years to learn and understand the man he really is, a kind, generous, compassionate person who is constantly thinking about how to make the world a better place, wether [sic] that is helping kids in Africa, talking openly about mental health, encouraging children or talking about climate change and the things that we all human beings need to change for the next generations.”

Figueras added: “I see him do that over and over again and it is truly inspiring. I am honored to be your friend and let’s keep fighting because if we all fight together love always wins.”

As for whether Figueras believes that Harry’s son, Archie, will also play polo when he grows up, the pro said it’s a very good possibility, telling PEOPLE, “His grandfather played, his great grandfather played and his father played and so I would love for him to do it.”

Prince Harry’s friend defended him

In response to criticism that Prince Harry faced when he participated in the Sentebale Polo Cup, spending his first night away from his baby, Figueras told a reporter: “That’s an assumption that you’re making. I am a father of four and sometimes duty calls. This is 24 hours away from the house, I think he’s doing just fine. He’s a wonderful father. I’m very impressed and he’s here for an amazing cause… I don’t see that as a problem.”

In an interview with CBS This Morning, Figueras explained why he shut the reporter down, noting, “How dare that guy, you know, tell a father who loves his child and is leaving [his] house for 24 hours to go raise money for thousands of vulnerable children in Africa, how dare he say something like that?”

He further noted that he thinks that Prince Harry and Markle “are being misinterpreted in so many different ways,” adding, “it bothers me a lot.”
