Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Have Reportedly ‘Laid the Foundation’ to Exit the Royal Family

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have given royal watchers a lot to think about in the last week. After dropping several bombshells in a new documentary — including Prince Harry confirming his feud with Prince William — some royal experts believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are thinking about leaving the royal family altogether. And they may have already laid the foundation for a shocking exit.

Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leaving the royals?

In the new documentary, titled Harry and Meghan: An African Journey, the couple opened up about how they have struggled living under the spotlight for the past two years.  More specifically, Markle has felt a lot of pressure from the media since joining the royal family, and Prince Harry has not liked how the British press has been treating Markle.

This is why the couple has been very secretive about their lives in recent months. This includes keeping the birth of their first son, Archie Harrison, out of the public eye and shutting down any coverage of his christening, which was held as a private event.

In light of the new documentary, there are some experts who believe Prince Harry and Markle are considering leaving the royal family for a quieter life.

The subject of a royal exit was discussed during a recent podcast — Pod Save the Queen — from Ann Gripper, who interviewed Richard Palmer, a royal correspondent for Daily Express, and Russell Myers, the royal editor for the Daily Mirror.

According to Express, Palmer and Myers believe the Sussexes are already laying the groundwork for their exit, which could happen sooner than anyone thinks.

“Could they quit the Royal Family?” Gripper asked.

“Well, I can see it happening,” Palmer replied. “It’s possible at the moment, I think, to look at what they said, and Meghan essentially saying they’re really only existing and not enjoying life.”

Palmer added that the interview opens the door for a potential exit from the royal family down the road, especially if things do not improve.

When might Harry and Markle leave the royals?

There is no telling when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might leave the royal family, but Palmer believes that they are already crafting a narrative that will make their exit easier.  This includes letting the public know that they are unhappy behind closed doors and that they might be better off if they left the royal family for good.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are rumored to be looking at places in California so that Markle can be closer to her mother, Doria Ragland, who lives in Los Angeles. They are also set to visit Los Angeles in time for Thanksgiving next month, a trip that has only fueled the moving rumors even more.

If they don’t relocate to California, there is some talk that the pair will set up a home base in South Africa, where Prince Harry would love to live out the rest of his days. These rumors, of course, are nothing more than speculation, though Palmer believes it is the groundwork for a potential move down the road.

If Harry and Markle did move outside of England, it would be very difficult for them to justify the expense with British taxpayers. The other option is if they paid for the move themselves, which might require them giving up their royal titles.

Prince Harry looks subdued during a recent event

Harry and Markle have not commented on the reports that they might leave the royal family. The shocking documentary came shortly after the couple’s trip to South Africa, and the two are now resuming their royal duties in England.

The Sussexes most recently attended an event inside Windsor Castle, where body language experts say Prince Harry looked uncharacteristically “subdued.”

Markle, on the other, appeared more confident than usual, which might have something to do with her emotional interview. The former actress admitted that she has struggled to adjust to life as a royal and that becoming a mother only made things worse.

The admission was probably good to get off her chest, especially in light of how Markle has been covered in the media.

Meghan Markle gave birth to her first child with Prince Harry, Archie Harrison, last May. It is unclear if there is any truth to the exit rumors, but we hope things start to improve for the couple in the coming months.
