Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Have ‘Torpedoed’ Their Chances of Returning to the Royal Family After Bombshell Book, According to Sources
As it stands at the time of this writing, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have the option of returning to the royal family if life in America doesn’t work out. However, sources say that an upcoming tell-all book could lead to their “permanent exile.”
Titled Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, it’s a biography that details the resentment that built up between the Sussexes and their family before the pair made the ultimate decision to step back from royal life and spend time abroad.
Though Prince Harry and Meghan did not contribute to the book, sources told The Daily Mail that they have seemingly given it their blessing, and for that, there could be serious consequences.
A quick explanation of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back from the royal family
Amid rumors of infighting within the royal family and nonstop criticism from the press, the Sussexes announced in January that they were going to step back. In a statement posted to Instagram, the couple said that they intended to lead more independent lives and spend more time in North America while continuing to “fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”
They finished their duties in March and left the United Kingdom for Canada before settling in Meghan’s native Los Angeles. The couple is now said to be living in an $18 million mansion owned by Tyler Perry until they can find a place of their home.
The new biography on the couple makes damning claims about the royal family
In Finding Freedom, Scobie and Durand wrote that the Sussexes felt unsupported and decided to step back after other royals were repeatedly prioritized over them.
“Increasingly Harry had grown frustrated that he and Meghan often took a back seat to other family members,” the book explained. When the pair “wanted to focus on a project,” according to the book, they “were told that a more senior ranking family member, be it Prince William or Prince Charles, had an initiative or tour being announced at the same time — so they would just have to wait.”
“For months the couple tried to air these frustrations, but the conversations didn’t lead anywhere,” the authors explained. As time continued to pass without any resolution, according to the book, stepping back seemed to be the only option for the Sussexes.
Sources say Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could face ‘permanent exile’ because of the book’s revelations
After excerpts of the book came out over the weekend of July 24, sources expressed their belief to The Daily Mail that the couple has “torpedoed … any hopes of renegotiating their royal duties when ‘Megxit’ is reviewed” in 2021.
‘”The door will always be open to them as much-loved members of the family. But it’s hard to see how they can now salvage the new role they wanted as ‘hybrid” royals,’ running commercial careers alongside royal duties from the US,” a source said.
Meanwhile, another insider suggested the couple has ruined their chances of returning to the royal family altogether. “The review period has not yet been discussed but it doesn’t seem if there is any way of going back now,” they declared. “Some very private family matters have now been aired in public, seemingly with [Prince Harry and Meghan’s] blessing. That will be hurtful.”
What’s even wilder is that there could be even more startling claims in the book than just that. You can get your hands on Finding Freedom when it releases on Aug. 11.
