Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Remind Everyone They Have Feelings Too
Rarely do we see members of the British royal family offer public displays of emotion. In the past, even public displays of affection were taboo.
But, today’s royals are younger, down-to-earth, and will not hesitate to remind everyone that they have feelings too. When you consider the whirlwind of events that have taken place for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in just the past two years, it’s no surprise that recent interviews have uncovered their very emotional journey.
The newlywed couple navigates a very public life, from dating to marriage, through pregnancy, and now parenting and public service. They fend off the paparazzi and rumors of family discord whether it be Duchess Meghan’s paternal family or Prince Harry’s rumored rife with his older brother: Prince William.
Meghan Markle admits the couple struggles
During the making of an emotional documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, the Duchess of Sussex reveals that she was not prepared for the amount of scrutiny, intrusion, and lies she has to face from the royal press. In a very touching moment, while suppressing tears, Meghan states:
“Look any woman especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable, and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a newborn … And especially as a woman, it’s really, it’s a lot. So, you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed.”
Her open and honest revelation reminds us of the horrific, public hounding of Princess Diana and her untimely death. Princess Di was dubbed “the most photographed woman in the entire world,” and her son Prince Harry still has hurtful memories of her life and her death.
How does Prince Harry feel?
While speaking at the WellChild Awards in London, Prince Harry was overcome with emotion concerning his new wife’s pregnancy which they had a secret from the public. As any new parents would, they experienced the joy of expectation.
And as royals they also experienced the sorrow and concern of the public and private constraints in which they must live. Knowing first hand the tragedy of his mother’s very public life, we can only imagine the daily reminder Prince Harry has to endure when tracked and followed by the media.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sue the British press
Possibly in an attempt to get ahead of what the couple must by now know will be unrelenting media harassment, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are standing up against the British tabloids and media outlets that have invaded their privacy and continue to spread unsubstantiated rumors. This is certainly a different path from how the royal family has traditionally handled the press.
As ruthless campaigns have escalated since the birth of their son Archie, the couple wants to remind everyone that they are real people, with real feelings — and that the negative and untruthful press reports are hurtful. The press went so far as to publish a private letter from Duchess Meghan to her father.
Maybe this was the last straw, as the couple made a public announcement that the Royal couple would sue the publication, The Mail, for this breach of privacy.
This situation has Prince Harry very upset. It looks as if he has chosen to fight to protect his family from the damaging influence of media sensationalism and relentless pursuit from the paparazzi. With every click of a photographer’s camera, he may be re-experiencing the unfortunate death of his mother and the trauma of his young manhood.
New royal rumors still top the headlines, as daily publications of a possible rift between Prince Harry and Prince William make the rounds, and a smoldering, undercurrent of jealousy between the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton and the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle frequently surface.
What we can see, that is real and true: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not quietly sit by and keep a “stiff upper lip.” They are speaking up, taking charge, and displaying to the world that they are human with emotions that can be stretched to the limit.
