Will Princess Eugenie be Godmother to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Baby?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby is due in spring 2019. And, like all royal babies, the prince or princess will likely be baptized at St. James’s Palace in London. But, who will its godparents be? In the royal family, siblings are rarely chosen as godparents to a royal baby — which is why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not Prince Louis’ godparents — so Prince William and Kate Middleton most-likely won’t be the new baby’s godparents.

That said, the royal parents-to-be have a list of potential godparents for their first child, and Princess Eugenie could be a top contender. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly very close to Harry’s cousin and her new husband, Jack Brooksbank. The foursome has often been seen out in London together and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank even accompanied Prince Harry on a trip to Toronto when he and Meghan Markle were dating. The royals allegedly went to a Toronto house party on Halloween together.

If chosen, Princess Eugenie won’t be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby’s only godparent. Much like Prince William and Kate Middleton did with Prince Louis, the royal parents could choose six of their closest friends and family members for the honor. Here are some of the potential contenders:

Princess Eugenie

As we mentioned above, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could name Princess Eugenie one of their baby’s godparents. Prince Harry has kept a close relationship with his first cousin throughout his life and now their bond is closer than ever as she and Meghan are also close.

Jessica Mulroney

Another potential godmother for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby is Jessica Mulroney. The Canadian stylist is one of Meghan Markle’s closest friends from before her life as a royal and we wouldn’t be surprised if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex choose her.

Benita Litt

Similar to Jessica Mulroney, Meghan Markle’s friendship with Benita Litt formed long before she was part of the royal family. As it turns out, Meghan is her daughters’, Remi and Rylan, godmother. And, the duchess allegedly spent Christmas 2016 with Benita’s family.

Charlie van Straubenzee

Some of Prince Harry’s close childhood friends — like Charlie van Straubenzee — might also be godparent to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby. Prince Harry and Charlie van Straubenzee grew up together and both went to Ludgrove Prep School in Berkshire. Charlie was an usher at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding last spring and he and Prince William allegedly roasted him at his wedding reception at Frogmore house. Charlie’s brother, Thomas is Princess Charlotte’s godfather.

Tom ‘Skippy’ Inskip

Another potential godfather for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby is Tom Inskip, aka “Skippy.” The royal’s friend is often considered his right-hand man and has been there for the Duke of Sussex throughout every phase of his life. Given their close relationship, we wouldn’t be surprised if Prince Harry named him godfather.

Guy Pelly

Guy Pelly could also be named godfather of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby. The long-time friend’s mother was a close friend of Princess Diana’s and Guy is Prince George’s godfather.
