Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s First Netflix Production Is About a Topic Close to Harry’s Heart

In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior royals. The couple moved to California and put forth their plan for financial independence.

One part of their plan to make money involves Netflix. Harry and Meghan are now working with the streaming giant to produce content, and they recently unveiled their first project, which is about a topic close to Harry’s heart.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a deal with Netflix in 2020

In September 2020, it was revealed that Harry and Meghan had signed a deal with Netflix.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” the Sussexes said in  statement. “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us. Netflix’s unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.”

According to the Daily Mail, the Netflix deal was reportedly worth $150 million. However, Harry and Meghan have not confirmed this number.

Fans have been wondering what Harry and Meghan will produce for Netflix, and the couple recently announced their first project.

As reported by Deadline, the Sussexes’ production company, Archewell Productions, is working on a docu-series about the Invictus Games. Called Heart of Invictus, the series will “follow a group of competitors, from around the globe, all service members who have suffered life-changing injuries or illnesses, on their road to the Invictus Games The Hague, which will take place in 2022.”

The Invictus Games is one of Harry’s best known work as a royal. It is a multi-sport event for armed service personnels who have been wounded or injured. Harry—who served in the military for 10 years—helped launch the Invictus Games in 2014.

Deadline noted that Heart of Invictus will see an appearance by Harry as well.

“As Archewell Productions’ first series with Netflix, in partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation, I couldn’t be more excited for the journey ahead or prouder of the Invictus community for continuously inspiring global healing, human potential and continued service,” the prince said.

In addition to working with Netflix, Harry and Meghan have a deal with Spotify as well. According to their website, their audio-first production company, Archewell Audio, has an exclusive partnership with Spotify and will produce “podcasts and shows that build community through shared experiences, powerful narratives, and universal values.”

In December 2020, the couple released the trailer for Archewell Audio. In it, they previewed some things fans can look forward to.

“One of the things my husband and I have always talked about is our passion for meeting people and hearing their stories,” Meghan said. “We’re talking to some amazing people they’re gonna share their memories that have really shaped this past year.”
