Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s New Gig Has Royal Family Nervous

Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex recently signed an extremely lucrative deal with Netflix. At the beginning of 2020, the couple made the decision to become independent of the royal family in a move that was quickly dubbed “Megxit,” and all eyes have been on them ever since.

Everyone was anxious to know where Meghan and Prince Harry would live, and what their next move would be. In fact, one of the biggest questions surrounding the royal exit was people wondering just how the Sussexes would make money now that they were no longer receiving taxpayer funds. Not too long ago, the couple recently settled into a lavish new mansion in Meghan’s hometown of LA, California, and it seems that all the pieces are finally fitting together for the two of them.

They are beginning the journey that they set out to do, and they are finally free of the royal fishbowl. We couldn’t be happier for Meghan and Prince Harry, however, it seems that not everyone is as excited as we are. Here is why Prince Harry and Meghan’s new gig has the royal family nervous.

So, what is the new deal that everyone has been talking about? Well, according to the New York Times, Meghan and Prince Harry are all set to produce viewing content, including documentaries, scripted shows, children’s programming, and more, and chances are, fans can’t wait.

Although Meghan is not returning to plan to the world of acting, there is a possibility that she and Prince Harry might also appear on camera from time to time in some documentaries. They recently released a statement saying that “[their] focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” and their take on what is to come definitely builds the anticipation.

Netflix has over 190 million subscribers, so the Sussexes content will definitely be viewed by an astonishing number of people, and we can only imagine that this is the beginning of something great.

Now that Meghan and Prince Harry are no longer senior working royals, aren’t they allowed to simply do as they please? The answer could be a little complicated. Technically, they are independent, but according to a source, the royal family is still “hoping for Prince Harry and Meghan to uphold royal values.”

The same source also said that while the Sussexes don’t have to answer to critics, the British Monarchy “does not have the same freedom.” Meghan and Prince Harry were supposedly involved in the recent biography that was written about them, which didn’t exactly sit well with the rest of the royals.

It looks as if although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stepped down from royal duties and have even moved thousands of miles away, they are still being closely watched by the monarchy.

It turns out that the royal family is a little on edge regarding Meghan and Harry’s new Netflix partnership. Why is this? The Daily Mail reports that the family is a bit nervous wondering what the deal will mean for them.

Apparently, they didn’t even tell Queen Elizabeth of their plans in advance, and chances are, that was frowned upon. The queen feels that “danger surrounds high profile roles outside the institution itself,” and some previous projects that the other family members have attempted in the past didn’t exactly go so well.

“Harry did not inform the Queen about the Netflix deal,” a royal source told The Sun. “Her Majesty is all too aware of the pitfalls of when senior royals embark on lucrative projects—Prince Edwards’ production flop and some of the deals Sarah Ferguson has signed over the years to name a few. Her view is simple, the Royals are not for sale and danger surrounds high profile roles outside of the institution itself. But knowing her grandson Harry as she does, the Queen will know there would have been little chance of talking Harry and Meghan out of it.”

What’s more, the royal family is also concerned by the impact it will have on Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. “There are some members of the institution who are concerned that the couple are going to cash in on their royal connections,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told ET. “They might be under pressure from Netflix to stray into upper territory but sources close to the couple tell me that they are very adamant that anything and everything that they do is very much going to be in a respectful tone to the Queen, the monarchy, and very much on their missions.”

Now, the report goes on to say that the royals are “looking over their shoulders” at Meghan and Prince Harry, and although only time will tell as to what will happen, it is clear that they are a bit apprehensive about the entire situation.
