Prince Harry and Prince William Both Did This One Big Thing Before Proposing
Princes Harry and William have grown up in the spotlight, each becoming their own person before our eyes. However, they both still have similarities. Attribute it to being brothers or not, they both did the same major thing before proposing to their significant others. Keep reading to learn what the brothers did before putting a ring on it.
Princes William and Harry are only two years apart. Naturally, they grew up being close to one another, especially after the death of their mother, Princess Diana. While there may or may not have been a recent split between the two royals, they had a close relationship as children and well into adulthood.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship
You’d have to be living under a literal rock not to know about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The two began their romance back in the summer of 2016. They managed to keep their relationship to themselves for nearly six months. Markle and Harry got engaged after about a year-and-a-half of dating, got married in one of the biggest events of 2018, and are now expecting a baby together –known as Baby Sussex — in late April 2019.
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship
Prince William and Kate Middleton got married in 2011 at Westminster Abbey with the world watching. The couple met during their freshman year of college and dated for a number of years before getting engaged in Kenya. Today, they have three children together and are pros at being working royals.
What Prince William did before proposing
Both Prince William and Prince Harry acknowledged their girlfriends in public before proposing. They defended their significant others after the media reportedly behaved unkindly.
The first instance happened in 2007 when Prince William and Middleton were still pretty early in their relationship. At the time they were still boyfriend-girlfriend. The couple wouldn’t get engaged for another three years, in the fall of 2010.
On January 9, 2007, Middleton’s 25th birthday, paparazzi camped outside of Middleton’s Chelsea home. When she left for work, they surrounded her, asking her if she and William were engaged. The incident caused Prince William to release a statement to the press, which has since been highlighted in a 2011 documentary, according to Express.
“Prince William is very unhappy at the paparazzi harassment of his girlfriend. He wants, more than anything, for it to stop,” a spokesperson for Prince William said at the time, according to New Idea.
The spokesperson continued. “Miss Middleton should, like any other private individual, be able to go about her everyday business without this kind of intrusion. The situation is proving unbearable for all those concerned,” they added.
What Prince Harry did before proposing
Prince Harry similarly acknowledged his girlfriend, now the Duchess of Sussex, in a statement directed at the media. On November 8, 2016, after his relationship with Markle went public, the prince issued a statement to the media like his older brother did years earlier.
Harry’s statement, a practically unheard of move by a member of the royal family, attempted to protect Markle from the “wave of abuse and harassment” she had been experiencing. The statement cited “racial undertones,” and “outright sexism and racism.”
The statement went on to say reporters attempted to enter Markle’s home illegally and that “substantial bribes” were made to her ex-boyfriend for information on Markle.
