Prince Harry and Prince William: How Bad Really Was the Royal Feud?
Ever since Meghan Markle joined the royal family, there has been no shortage of rumors regarding her effect on various family members. Tabloids started claiming that Meghan didn’t get along with Queen Elizabeth, that she and Camilla Parker Bowles had become instant best friends. And, of course, that persistent rumor about a supposed feud between Meghan and Kate Middleton.
Perhaps the most widely-circulated story of the past year regarding the royal family has been what insiders claim is tension between Prince Harry and Prince William, caused by Meghan. Was there really a feud and how did it affect the two brothers?
Prince William thought Prince Harry moved too quickly
The feud rumors started when Harry told William that he planned to marry Meghan. Reportedly, William cautioned his younger brother about moving too quickly. William could have been slightly distrustful of Meghan at this time since she was an actress and theoretically could have been looking for more exposure.
In addition to that, the pair hadn’t been together very long at all — they had been dating for only about a year before getting engaged. William is, by nature, a more measured person than Harry, and he and Kate dated for over ten years before he proposed.
It seems likely that William was only trying to protect his brother. However, sources claim that Harry was offended by his brother’s suggestion that he wait to marry Meghan. Needless to say, Harry proceeded with his plans and married Meghan in May 2018.
Prince William and Prince Harry separated their households
According to a recent report, there were still hurt feelings between the brothers in the days following the royal wedding. Sources say that William and Harry didn’t see each other for a full six months after the wedding. At this time, Harry and Meghan were still living on palace grounds. The royals reportedly saw each other in an official capacity but reportedly didn’t get together in private.
Even if this report is true, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the brothers were fighting. William and his wife have three small children to tend to, in addition to his royal duties. Harry, on the other hand, was slowly getting more involved with major assignments and managing his charity work. It seems likely that the brothers were just very busy, and didn’t have as much time to spend together as what they did when they were younger.
Do Prince William and Prince Harry get along these days?
In March 2019, Harry and Meghan asked the queen for official permission to split from the palace to move to a more private residence. While many took this as further evidence of a royal feud, the truth of the matter seems to be that the parents-to-be just wanted a quiet place to prepare for the arrival of their baby.
Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born on May 6th, 2019. His birth caused a flurry of celebration all over the world, and especially within the royal family. Reportedly, William and Kate were among the first to visit Harry and Meghan at their Frogmore Cottage home. If there ever was bad blood between the brothers, it was surely long forgotten. These days, Harry is likely trying to get as much parenting advice as he possibly can from his older brother. No matter what, William and Harry will always have an incredible bond.
