Prince Harry Might Not Be Able To Handle It If Meghan Markle Has Home Birth
Meghan Markle is due to give birth to Baby Sussex any day now –and everyone seems to be awaiting the royal baby’s debut with bated breath. Both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle live an organic and green lifestyle; therefore many people have speculated that the duchess might choose to have a natural birth or a home birth –snubbing British Royal tradition.
The Palace has released a statement saying the Sussexes have made personal decision to keep plans surrounding the birth of their baby private. However, if Markle does choose to have a home birth, Prince Harry might not be able to handle it.
Meghan Markle’s birth plan
Though the Palace has not confirmed Markle’s birth plan, we do know that Suits alum already has an idea in mind. Though this is Markle’s first child, she and Prince Harry are reportedly considering a home birth instead of the traditional hospital birth at St. Mary’s Hospital Lindo Wing. Since the prince and the duchess now live in Frogmore Cottage in Windsor–about an hour away from London, getting Markle to St. Mary’s in the midst of labor would be too far of a trek.
Meghan Markle may use a doula
If the duchess does decide to have a home birth –she will likely have a doula on hand to help her through labor and delivery. A doula is a non-medical professional whose sole purpose is to advocate on behalf of the mother they provide comfort and emotional support.
In addition to her doula and Prince Harry, Markle’s mother Doria Ragland will also be present in the labor and delivery room. Vanity Fair reports, “Doria plans to be around a lot when the baby arrives, and there are plans for her to have a dedicated space at their new home. She wants to be on hand to help Meghan and Harry with the baby. Doria will be involved, and if she’s involved she will be encouraging Meg to go for a natural birth.”
Why wouldn’t Prince Harry be able to handle Meghan Markle’s home birth?
Labor and delivery can be extremely challenging. Also, since this is Markle’s first child, she doesn’t really know what to expect –especially if there is no medication involved. Tom Rawstorne who has witnessed his wife have three home births warned that watching your partner in pain can also make you feel helpless. Rawstorne told Daily Mail,
The Prince intends to be by his wife’s side ‘every step of the way’ – which, for a survivor of home births like me, sends shivers down my spine. Ah, the naivety of the initiated because the fact is, no matter how good you are at doing the downward dog, the reality of home birth for a man is altogether less alluring than it might sound at first. Refusal to go along with your partner’s birthing plans will have you marked down as some sort of a Victorian throwback. Don’t be upset or angry at rejection, Harry… Get used to it…”
We know how protective the prince is of his wife, so we’re hoping for a healthy safe labor and delivery.
