Prince Harry’s Family Might Have Had More to Do With His Royal Exit Than We Thought
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have dealt with a lot ever since they were married back in 2018. And even before that, things weren’t super easy for the couple. Prince Harry, who has always had one of the highest approval ratings in the family, slowly became the center of attention — and not for the right reasons.
Harry and Meghan were hounded by the media during the first year and a half of their marriage, and finally, they decided to step back to live a more peaceful life. But Harry’s family might have played a bigger role in their departure than we realized.
Harry and Meghan were unwelcomed by the media when they wed
When Meghan first started dating the prince, the media immediately dove into her past to come up with any detail that would ruin her. They exposed her difficult relationship with her family, her previous divorce, and anything else they could get their hands on. It proved hard for Meghan to win over the public because the media had portrayed her so negatively in such a short time.
Once she and Harry wed, it seemed that no matter what the duchess did, it wasn’t good enough for royal fans — especially those who had put Kate Middleton on such a pedestal. It didn’t take long for the tabloids to pit the women against each other, and eventually, Harry and Meghan chose to step back.
The two claim to have left the family for a more peaceful life
When Harry and Meghan announced their departure back in January, Harry said in a speech that it was because the two had hoped to live a more peaceful life outside the royal spotlight. At this point, the media had taken such a toll on Meghan and Harry that it seemed to be the only option. Plus, the couple had opted not to give their son, Archie, a royal title, which might have hinted that they’d been thinking about backing out of their royal duties for a long time.
Some of Harry’s relatives’ decisions actually might have influenced him to leave
The media’s strain on the couple’s happiness might not have been the only reason they left. Last year, Harry made a subtle dig toward the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge after saying that he and Meghan wouldn’t have more than two kids so as to protect the environment.
On March 11, news broke that Harry had been tricked into thinking he was speaking with Greta Thunberg on the phone (the call ended up being from Russian pranksters). Harry said that “small steps” wouldn’t work in terms of saving the environment at this point. People quickly suggested that Harry was making a dig at the way his grandmother was handling environmental issues, since she had said in her Christmas broadcast that “small steps” would lead to lasting change.
Becoming a separate entity allows the couple to do things the way they want to
Harry and Meghan might have left the family not only because of the media but also because they weren’t happy with the way the family was handling all of the world’s issues. Of course, there will likely never be confirmation on this, but Harry did seem to subtly voice that he was unhappy with the way the royals were handling the world’s environmental crisis.
By creating their own entity, Harry and Meghan will be able to take on global challenges in their own way without approval from the queen. And it might have played a significant role in their want to start a new life without the others.
