Prince Harry might not be a dad just yet, but he recently got another pretty cool title. The Duke of Sussex just became a godfather (again) — and he couldn’t be more excited about his new role. The red-headed prince was named godfather to his cousin Zara Tindall’s youngest child, Lena Elizabeth. Here’s everything we know about his special new role.
This is how Prince Harry became a godfather–again
Though his wife, Meghan Markle is officially on maternity leave –Prince Harry and his bride attended the private Christening of Zara Tindall’s 10-month-old daughter Lena Elizabeth. Tindall and Prince Harry are first cousins since their parents, Princess Anne and Prince Charles are siblings. Baby Lena Elizabeth was christened in a private ceremony at St Nicholas Church in Cherington, Gloucestershire on Saturday, March 16, 2019,where Prince Harry was named godfather. Queen Elizabeth and Princess Anne were also in attendance.
This is what Prince Harry has said about being a godfather
Baby Lena Elizabeth is not Prince Harry’s first godchild, in fact, he has quite a few. In a 2017 interview with The Telegraph, the prince explained why being a godfather has prepared him for fatherhood. He said, “I’m a godfather to quite a few of my friends’ [kids]. Um, actually only five or six. I think the key to that is to grow up, but also to be able to stay in touch with your childhood side. If that means going to someone’s house and sitting there and playing PlayStation and kicking the ass of their son on or whatever it is, then I’ll try and do that. I’ve actually had a lot of practice for that.”
Who will Baby Sussex’s godparents be?
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry won’t announce Baby Sussex’s godparents until after the baby is born. Since we know that Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton aren’t going to be the baby’s godparents since they will already be aunt and uncle –most people are eyeing Prince Harry and Markle’s close friends.
Serena Williams, Jessica Mulroney, and Priyanka Chopra could all be in the running for Baby Sussex’s godmother, and Prince Harry’s best friend Tom Inskip could be the baby’s godfather.
Princess Eugenie or Princess Beatrice could also be Baby Sussex’s godmother
Prince Harry has always been close to his cousins Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. Though royals don’t typically give godparent duties to each other –Markle and the prince could throw in a wild card. In fact, there has been some talk that Princess Eugenie could be Baby Sussex’s godmother. We think the princess could be a perfect choice.
