Prince Harry Is ‘Tormented’ by His Fallout With His Family While Meghan Markle Is ‘Struggling to Cope’ With L.A. Life, Report Says
After nonstop rumors of infighting within the royal family and unrelenting scrutiny from the media, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal life. They relocated to Los Angeles in search of “a more peaceful life,” but even that has apparently brought its own set of stressors.
In a new report, one of Markle’s supposed relatives said Prince Harry is “tormented by his fractured family ties” while the former Suits star has been “feeling low and probably struggling.”
A quick recap of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step away from royal life and what caused it
The pair had been facing intense backlash since the beginning of their relationship in 2016. The tension only grew when Prince William allegedly expressed his concern about the speed of their relationship in 2017, marking the beginning of a rift between them.
The couple went on to marry in a fairytale-like ceremony in May 2018, but Markle specifically continued to face criticism in the press for various reasons — from her style choices to her drama with her father, Thomas Markle. They put on poker faces when they stepped out, but Markle finally broke down in the October 2019 documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, saying she was not OK.
By January, they had had enough. The couple officially wrapped up their duties in March and quickly left the United Kingdom for Canada. They have since settled in Markle’s native Los Angeles and are temporarily living in a $18 million mansion owned by movie mogul Tyler Perry.
The latest report about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
The aforementioned insider told The Sunday Mirror in a July 4 report that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been feeling anxious as the royal rift plays out in court.
Markle, at the time of this writing, is suing two British newspapers for their coverage of her. Court documents from the lawsuit leaked during the week of June 28, revealing that Markle felt “unprotected” and “silenced” by the monarchy while facing media scrutiny.
“The legal battle and the increased tension it’s created with the royals due to the information that’s coming out has to be putting a lot of strain on them both,” said Markle’s supposed relative. “Meghan’s been a lot more distant and introverted over the last few weeks – her family is worried. And Harry must be tormented by his fractured family ties. He was particularly down on William’s birthday on June 21.”
It’s not the first time we’ve heard this
The report follows many others saying similar things. In May, a source said the former royals were struggling to get into the groove of Los Angeles living while another said in July that Markle had been sad about not being able to see her friends due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But at least, they have one another for support. Even though things might be tense when it comes to the royal family, a source told Entertainment Tonight in June that the couple’s relationship is “stronger than ever.” The insider went on to say that they are “relieved to have less pressures and commitments, and that they’re using this time to be thoughtful and strategic about the type of work and projects they want to be involved in moving forward.”
Royal expert Katie Nicholl even suggested to Entertainment Tonight in May that Prince Harry’s relationship with his brother might not be as bad as some think.
“There have been clearly some quite major rifts in that relationship, but things have got better and I know that William and Harry are in touch on the phone,” Nicholl explained. “They have done video calls together, they have done a lot of family birthdays and I think with Prince Charles not being well, that really forced the brothers to pick up the phone and get back in touch.”
We’re glad to hear it. Let’s hope they keep it up.
