Prince Harry Just Dealt With This Royal Scandal In the Most Unexpected Way

Except for extreme circumstances, Buckingham Palace and the British royal family have a very explicit way of dealing with controversy: they ignore it.

When those nasty rumors about Prince William cheating on Kate Middleton with her “rural rival” Rose Hanbury started circulating a few months ago, we didn’t hear a peep from the Palace. No public statements were made about Meghan Markle and her family drama. Same goes for many other scandals that have happened over the years.

But rather than maintaining silence during the massive private jet controversy going on right now with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke of Sussex is trying a different tactic. And the whole thing is very out of character for him and the royal family in general.

Prince Harry has faced so much criticism lately

The private jet debacle is just one of so many controversies that Prince Harry has been involved in lately. Ever since marrying Meghan Markle, the press and royal fans have been questioning his every move, wondering why Prince Harry was so devoted to privacy and if he was really feuding with his brother, Prince William. Most people assumed Meghan Markle was to blame for the change.

Prince Harry is also being accused of becoming too political. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are committed to raising awareness for climate change concerns, but critics question if they’re being hypocritical about it. Especially when they arrive at events on private jets.

The Duke of Sussex admitted he made a mistake

Though he did take time to defend himself, Prince Harry did something that’s not easy for anyone — he confessed that he was in the wrong. At a recent event in Amsterdam, the royal activist joked with onlookers after assuring them he’d taken a commercial flight to get there. “Having spent last night here — I don’t know about you guys but it was definitely the best nights’ sleep I’ve had for the last four months!” he quipped.

While addressing the controversy, Prince Harry said he planned to make up for his carbon footprint. “We can all do better and while no one is perfect, we all have a responsibility for our own individual impact,” he said. “The question is what we do to balance it out.”

Today, during the launch event of the new global initiative ‘Travalyst’, The Duke of Sussex shared his remarks on the exciting new initiative from Amsterdam. #Travalyst, an initiative led by The Duke and founded by Booking.com, Ctrip, Skyscanner, TripAdvisor and Visa, sees a pressing need for increased collaboration to make sustainability a priority across our entire travel experience – and we believe that collective, collaborative action will be critical to achieve this. The travel and tourism sector is constantly growing and contributes a significant impact to the world we live in today. The Duke sees it as one of the worlds biggest problems but believes this partnership can make it one its greatest solutions: • – 1.8 Billion trips will be made annually by 2030, and since 2000, the number of trips taken around the world has more than doubled – 71% of global travellers think travel companies should offer more sustainable options – $8.8 Trillion was generated to the global economy from travel and tourism last year – 57% of all international trips by 2030 will include emerging market destinations We plan to work closely with local communities and providers, leveraging technology to help scale sustainable supply to meet the growing mass-market demand from consumers – ultimately, making sustainable travel options of all kinds easier for consumers to identify, book and enjoy. Prince Harry defended his decision to fly on private planes

Though he did admit he could do better, Prince Harry didn’t take all of the blame. “I came here by commercial. I spend 99% of my life traveling the world by commercial,” he explained. “Occasionally, there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure my family are safe and it’s genuinely as simple as that.”

But now he’s trying to make up for those rare times. Along with other travel industry members, Prince Harry is helping to launch a new initiative to make air travel cleaner and greener. Prince Harry called Travalyst the “first-of-its-kind coalition, a united front of businesses dedicated to making travel an engine for sustainability” saying it will “transform the future of travel for everyone.”

We can all hope that comes to pass. Either way, we’re glad to see Prince Harry practicing humility and admitting to making mistakes like the rest of us!
