Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle having a boy or girl?

While the royal family shares their life with the public, there are some things they prefer to keep under wraps — that includes pregnancies and baby names. Traditionally, the royals won’t share a pregnancy announcement until the mother is at least in her second trimester. However, Kate Middleton has shared the news earlier, given some complications. In addition, they don’t like to share the name of their baby until about a week (or more) after their arrival.

As for gender, that’s usually hush-hush until the birth. Most royal parents choose to wait until the birth to reveal the gender for themselves, too. According to parenting resource, Babycenter, most women have the option to find out the sex of their baby between 16 weeks and 20 weeks. That means, if Meghan Markle and Prince Harry want to know, they likely already do. However, they have yet to share the news with the public (and probably won’t until after his or her arrival).

Whether they know or not, the predictions are at an all-time high. During their Australian tour, Prince Harry said: “everyone is predicting it’s going to be a girl.”

Everything we know about the royal-to-be

Despite the gender of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby under wraps, we know a good amount about the royal-to-be, as well as Meghan Markle’s birth plan. Keep reading to find out more about the future prince or princess of Sussex.

Meghan Markle will likely give birth in the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital

Like most royal women, Meghan Markle’s birth plan likely includes giving birth in the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital. Upon his or her arrival, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will also introduce their new bundle of joy on the steps of the wing, just like Prince William and Kate Middleton have done with their three children.

Prince Harry hopes for a girl

Apparently, Prince Harry has his hopes up for a little princess. While on a royal tour in Australia, someone told Prince Harry, “I hope it’s a girl!” The Duke of Sussex allegedly replied, “So do I!”

Meghan Markle already has a special gift for her daughter

If they do have a daughter, Meghan Markle already has a very sweet gift for her little princess. In celebration of her third season of Suits, the former actress splurged on a Cartier French Tank watch. “When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season—which, at the time, felt like such a milestone—I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version,” she told Hello! Magazine. To add to the special piece, she had the watch engraved with “To M.M. From M.M.” in honor of her hard work and success. “I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them,” she said.

They will live in Windsor

The Sussex fam is moving to Windsor! Ahead of their first-born’s arrival, the duke and duchess are renovating a 10-bedroom estate home on the grounds of Windsor (very close to Windsor Castle, where they got married). The two will raise their son or daughter there and commute to the city for work.

Their son or daughter will be christened

Christenings are a must in the royal family — which means Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will likely have their son or daughter christened. Historically, royal christenings take place in the family’s private chapel at St. James’s Palace and the couple shares a saved cake tier from their wedding day.

Fortunately, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s saved piece of cake won’t be as old as Kate Middleton and Prince William who saved three tiers for their planned three children.

They might name their daughter after Princess Diana

Naming a royal baby gets complicated. However, Prince Harry and Megan Markle have likely already agreed on one name for their daughter: Diana. While it might not be her first name — rumor has it, Victoria, Alice, and Elizabeth are tied in the predictions — it’s likely the Duke of Sussex will want to honor his late mother in that way.

If Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a boy, they could choose Charles as one of the middle names. After all, he is the future king! In addition to Charles, some believe the couple is considering Albert, Arthur, or Alexander for their baby’s first name.
