How Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Reveal Their Baby’s Gender?
In true Prince Harry and Meghan Markle fashion, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are allegedly doing away with royal family tradition when it comes to the birth of their first child. Following a frenzy of speculations, Meghan Markle’s birth plan was announced by the palace today with confirmation of when the public will learn of their baby’s arrival — and it’s not what we expected.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby,” Kensington Palace said in a statement. “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family,” they continued.
How will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reveal their baby’s gender?
Per Kensington Palace’s statement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle likely won’t pose for a photocall hours after welcoming their baby into the world. But, what about the birth announcement and gender reveal? How will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reveal their baby’s gender?
Following a royal birth, Kensington Palace traditionally releases a birth announcement with a framed copy posted at Buckingham Palace for all to see. The announcement typically includes the baby’s gender, time of birth, weight, and any other small details about the birth.
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered a son at 1101 hours. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth,” Prince Louis’s April 2018 announcement read. “The Queen. The Duke of Edinburgh. The Prince of Wales. The Duchess of Cornwall. Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well,” it confirmed.
With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wishes, the public might not receive an announcement following the birth. In order to keep their baby’s arrival private, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might ask that the palace doesn’t announce anything until they are home safely and without a fuss of a royal protocol.
When they do announce their baby’s birth, they will likely include their baby’s gender (like Prince William and Kate Middleton did). But, what about the baby’s name?
When will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce their baby’s name?
In the royal family, parents typically wait until a week or so after their baby’s birth announcement to share the name (or, in their case, names) with the public. But, if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle choose to forgo the initial announcement, they might break from tradition and include their baby’s name on Buckingham Palace’s easel.
However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made it clear that they want to remain out of the royal spotlight during this time, so they might wait to share their baby’s name after all.
