Meghan Markle is due in the spring

The spring season will be here before you know it and, with it, comes the birth of Baby Sussex. Markle’s exact due date hasn’t been revealed as the official pregnancy announcement only noted that the baby would arrive in the spring. With a vague due date, fans know they can expect Markle’s baby as early as March and as late as May.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly know the baby’s gender

While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly know whether they’re having a boy or a girl, they aren’t having a gender reveal party to publicize the information. According to reports, Markle already revealed the baby’s sex at her recent New York City baby shower — and they’re having a boy!

Will they choose celebrity godparents for Baby Sussex?

While it’s unknown who will serve as Baby Sussex’s godparents, there are a few details that can be revealed. For starters, it’s unlikely that Prince William and Kate Middleton will be the baby’s godparents because it’s just not done that way — royal protocol dictates that immediate family members can’t be godparents. Second, the couple will likely have an assortment of godparents.

Whether that includes someone in their celebrity circle remains to be seen, though George Clooney shot down the notion altogether. When asked earlier this year in an interview, he joked: “Oh yes, I’ll be godfather of the royals apparently,” before remarking, “No! I’m a father of twins, I have enough sh*t to deal with — literally!”

Markle’s close pals will likely fill godparent roles

It’s believed that some of Markle’s close friends will be selected as godparents and while it’s unknown who among her circle will have the coveted role, it’s very likely that one of her oldest pals will definitely get the gig.

In a discussion with E! News on the matter, journalist Melanie Bromley tried to predict some of the likely candidates, including Jessica Mulroney, Abigail Spencer, and Serena Williams.

Bromley shared that there is one person she knows for certain will be godmother, noting: “One person who will be confirmed is somebody called Lindsay Roth. Keep that name handy, guys. She will absolutely be one of the godparents.”

Who is Lindsay Roth?

While she might not be a celebrity, she and Markle go way back, as Bromley shared that she’s “Meghan’s best friend from Northwestern and super super close… she had her own baby last year, actually. She will absolutely be a godparent.” The two reportedly met in a literature class and hit it off, becoming lifelong friends. Markle was the maid of honor in Roth’s wedding.

Roth shared a photo of herself and Markle on Instagram in 2016, writing: “Happy happy birthday to the most kind, generous, wickedly smart and gorgeous (inside and out) #maidofhonor a girl could have! I love you.”

Bromley confirmed that, in total, there will likely be “five or six” godparents selected.
