Why Some Fans Think Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Will Name Their Daughter Victoria
As we get closer and closer to Meghan Markle’s due date, the royal baby watch has officially begun. Throughout the Duchess of Sussex’s pregnancy, fans and gamblers alike have made royal baby name predictions for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s firstborn with Diana and Elizabeth as some of the top contenders for baby girl names. But, other names such as Victoria also have a special meaning for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Find out why some fans predict Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will name their daughter Victoria, ahead.
Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle having a boy or girl?
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle most likely won’t announce their royal baby’s name until his or her arrival — and maybe even a couple of weeks after that. In the royal family, it’s not uncommon for the public to learn of a new prince or princess’s name until a week or two after the birth announcement. The reason for doing so has to do with gender reveal.
Traditionally, royal parents-to-be don’t find out their baby’s gender until the time of birth. But, although Meghan Markle has suggested that her baby’s gender is a surprise, some reports claim that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex know they are having a boy. However, the palace has yet to confirm, so everything is rumored at this point. Additionally, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have both made comments about a potential daughter, so it’s possible!
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle baby names
If Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcome a daughter this spring, some royal fans believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could name their daughter Victoria. The parents-to-be aren’t shy about being feminists, so they might look to name their daughter after an iconic leader like Queen Victoria, who ruled from 1837 until 1876. Some other iconic women in the royal family include Queen Elizabeth (of course), Princess Alice of Battenberg (Prince Philip’s mother and Queen Victoria’s great-granddaughter), and Princess Margaret (Queen Elizabeth’s rebellious sister).
Additionally, some royals think that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might choose a name that fits with their passion for philanthropy. One royal name that comes up is Alexandra, which means “helper of mankind.” They might also go with Mary, which is not only a royal family name but a combination of Meghan and Harry.
If the rumors are true and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in fact having a baby boy, they have quite a few options to choose from. The obvious choices are Charles and Philip, after Prince Harry’s father and grandfather. However, some also think the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could name their son Albert after King George VI, whose birth name was Albert (he changed it at the time of succession) or Arthur after the legendary King Arthur.
However, they might choose to break royal name rules and honor Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana in a unique way. If Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcome a baby boy this spring, some fans think they could name their firstborn Spencer, after Diana’s maiden name. How sweet is that?
