Who Is Sara Latham, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s New Head of Communications?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially parting ways with Kensington Palace. Last week, the royal family announced the split between Prince William and Prince Harry’s courts and the royal brothers are due to part ways this spring.

As part of their royal split, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s current staff will allegedly remain at Kensington Palace under Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal court, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have hired new staff, who will work out of Buckingham Palace. While their new team has yet to be announced, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have allegedly already hired Sara Latham as Head of Communications.

Who is Sara Latham? We take a closer look at her work history and her new role in the royal family, ahead.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hired Sara Latham as their Head of Communications

It’s no secret that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have more liberal beliefs — and their newest staff member proves it. According to royal commentator, Omid Scobie, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex hired Sara Latham, former senior advisor to Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign. Latham will report directly to Queen Elizabeth’s Communications Secretary, Donal McCabe.

The former campaign advisor left a “recently-appointed” role at Freuds, where she was in charge of global corporate accounts and put emphasis on executive thought leadership. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new head of communications has dual citizenship in the United States and the United Kingdom and has worked with several important figureheads, including former United States president, Barack Obama. According to Scobie, Latham was hired in 2008 as a transition official for the then president-elect.

Additionally, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new staff member also helped organize Bill Clinton’s re-election campaign in the 90s and also has experience with Tony Blair. The Milken Institute confirms she is “one of few Americans to have served as a political appointee in both the US and UK governments.”

Those close to Latham describe her as “very smart and very good at dealing with difficult characters,” The Daily Mail reports. She is also “very diplomatically adept” and “not in it for the money,” her former colleague explained.

Sara Latham’s salary

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are paying top dollar for their newest staff addition. According to The Daily Mail, their new Head of Communications has an alleged salary of £140,000 or $185,000. The royal couple was apparently quite impressed by her experience and appreciate her “firm but fair” approach, a source told the publication.

Sara Latham has worked with her fair share of politicians and world leaders. But, how did the new royal Head of Communications land a job at Buckingham Palace? The Daily Mail reports that George Clooney might have played a part in their introduction.

Clooney and his wife, Amal, are close friends of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Additionally, the American actor helped raise money for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. His connection to her campaign — which Latham was heavily involved in — leads the outlet to believe that Clooney might have had something to do with their introduction.
