Revealed: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Probably Won’t Use the Kensington Palace Instagram Anymore
Last week, the royal family announced what has been speculated for months: Prince William and Prince Harry are officially going their separate ways. In splitting their royal courts, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will cut ties with Kensington Palace and make Buckingham Palace their official London headquarters.
One of the biggest changes being made to their office? Their communications team. According to the announcement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will hire a new communications team — including a head of communications, who they have reportedly already hired — to operate out of Buckingham Palace, alongside the queen’s staff in the West Attic (aka, the Footman’s Floor), which has an open office floor plan.
The royal family’s Instagram accounts
In cutting ties with Kensington Palace, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex likely won’t use their current Instagram account, @kensingtonroyal, to share their work with followers. Instead, the Buckingham Palace account, @theroyalfamily — which shares news from all over the royal family — will likely continue to share their work. And, on top of that, they could even receive their own separate social handle.
While not every member of the royal family has their own official Instagram account, some of the most prominent members do. Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles share @clarencehouse and Prince William and Kate Middleton use @kensingtonroyal. Additionally, some Buckingham Palace residents also use their own accounts. Case in point: Prince Andrew receives recognition on @theroyalfamily and his own account, @hrhthedukeofyork.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles see the impact Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have on the world, which is propbably why they granted them their own household, separate from Prince Charles and Prince William. And while sharing their news on the royal family’s Instagram account would get the job done, their communications team likely believes that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should have their own account like other members of their family.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new Instagram account
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new Instagram account has yet to be revealed. However, we came across one that has high potential.
Although their headquarters will be at Buckingham Palace, Frogmore Cottage will serve as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s full-time home — aka the way they separate themselves from other royal family members. And, while some Instagram users have already used their new royal residence as inspiration for fan accounts, one handle stands out as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new account.
Unlike fan accounts, @frogmoreroyal has yet to post any photos of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which leads us to believe the account could be a placeholder. Additionally, it has a striking resemblance to their current shared account, @kensingtonroyal. That said, most placeholder accounts choose to remain private until launch and, despite its lack of content, this one is public. On top of that, the official royal family accounts don’t follow Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s alleged new Instagram handle — though that could be an effort to remain under the radar.
