Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Haven’t Made Any Money Since Megxit, Expert Claims

Though members of the British royal family are quite wealthy, large portions of their lavish lifestyles are funded from taxpayers’ dollars. Unfortunately, since royal life is in part, publically funded, many royal fans and experts feel as if it’s there right to get an inside view into the personal lives of the royal family.

To combat this fishbowl existence, the royal family has lived under a never complain or explain philosophy for decades. When she married into the royal fold, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex wasn’t prepared to live this way. As an actor, she was used to being able to defend herself against mistruths. However, as a royal, she was prohibited to do so.

After months of living under the weight of tabloid rumor and lies Meghan and Prince Harry decided exiting royal life was their only recourse. When they announced their exit plan, the pair also revealed that they would become financially independent. Yet, with everything that has been going on recently, those plans have stalled.

Meghan Marke and Prince Harry’s profitable plans have been put on hold

When the Sussexes left the U.K. and then Canada for a new life in LA, they had a powerhouse Hollywood team behind them looking to launch their new venture, Archewell foundation. In April 2020, the Sussexes released a statement saying,

Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’—the Greek word meaning ‘source of action.’ We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.

Archewell is said to consist of movies to podcasts, clothing to charitable services, and even online seminars, lectures, and retreats. Unfortunately, Archewell is on hold until 2021 as the Sussexes focus on the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and Black Lives Matter.

The Sussexes are living in Tyler Perry’s Beverly Hills mansion

Since they have not been earning money, the Sussexes have been lucky enough to be borrowing media mogul Tyler Perry’s $18 million Beverly Hills mansion. Daily Mail is reporting that the eight-bedroom, 12-bathroom home sits atop a hill in the exclusive Beverly Ridge Estates guard-gated community.

It does not appear that Perry is charging the Sussexes’ rent for their stay since he is very close with Oprah Winfrey who is also a good friend to the royals. Still, the Sussexes are still responsible for covering their living expenses, security, rent on Frogmore Cottage, legal fees, and reimbursing taxpayers for the money spent to renovate Frogmore.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle need to make money

The Sussexes are worth roughly $30 million. However, the last time they seemingly earned any money was in February 2020, when the prince gave a speech in Miami at a JP Morgan event. He was reportedly paid $1 million for his speech. Since then the pair have signed with prestigious speaking agency Harry Walker Agency where they will reportedly earn $1 million per speech. Unfortunately, the pandemic has put everything on hold and the Sussexes need to make some money soon to maintain their standard of living.

“They do need to make money,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “They’ve been in LA since March, they left the Royal Family at the end of March, and as yet, they haven’t actually earned anything.”

Hopefully, the pair will figure out things soon.
