Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Keep Their Home at Kensington Palace?

Kensington Palace will no longer serve as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s official royal residence. Ahead of the royal baby’s arrival, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are moving to Frogmore Cottage, which is located in the country on Windsor Estate (aka, just down the road from Windsor Castle). However, they will still need a place to stay when they are in London on business. Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle keep their home at Kensington Palace? Find out, below.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Kensington Palace move

Before they confirmed their official split from Prince William and Kate Middleton, many thought Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would keep their home, Nottingham Cottage, which is located on the grounds of Kensington Palace. The two-bedroom home is small, but enough room for the couple — and Baby Sussex — to stay while attending royal engagements and meetings in the city.

However, it appears that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might not stay after all. Due to their royal court separation — which means Prince William and Prince Harry will each have their own households — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to cut ties with Kensington Palace altogether.

Leaving Kensington Palace means that the duke and duchess will hire a new communications team and move their offices to Buckingham Palace to work alongside the queen’s staff. But, will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle move out of Kensington Palace for good? It’s hard to say for sure.

As part of their Kensington Palace separation, some believe the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will move in with the queen at Buckingham Palace. That said, the living quarters at Buckingham Palace are currently under construction, which has caused many of its residents to move out to nearby St. James’s Palace. That means Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will either set up their London residence temporarily at St. James’s Palace or remain at Kensington Palace’s Nottingham Cottage until the renovations are complete.

Why are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moving to Frogmore Cottage?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spend a lot of time in London, which makes us wonder: Why are they moving away to the countryside? As it turns out, they have a perfectly logical — and normal — answer. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle allegedly want more privacy for themselves and for their family. Additionally, they want their child (and any other future children) to grow up in as normal of an environment as possible.

Raising a child at Kensington Palace isn’t completely crazy, but Prince Harry has long had issues with the so-called “fishbowl” environment. Since it’s located in a popular tourist spot — and is a popular tourist spot — he and Meghan Markle feel like it doesn’t give them enough privacy for their family. Additionally, now that they have their own royal household, it doesn’t make sense for them to live so close to and share office space with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
