Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Have Officially Signed a Netflix Deal; What Can Fans Expect?

Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have had plenty of homes since the royal pair officially stepped down as Senior members of the Royal Family. And while they may continue to move around until they find a house to really settle into, they seem to have found an entertainment home in Netflix. The royal couple has officially signed a multi-year deal with the streaming service. But, just what can royal fans expect from the couple?

Netflix is certainly no stranger to bringing huge and powerful names on board. Giants in the entertainment industry like Shonda Rhimes have been brought on in order to enrich the platform. The popular streaming service even signed a deal with former U.S. President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, so they had experience with handling high-profile names prior to bringing Prince Harry and Meghan onboard.

Though Prince Harry is fairly new to this version of media, with the exception of his recent work on the Netflix documentary, Rising Phoenix, fans will note that Meghan has a background in the entertainment industry. Prior to joining the royal family, she made a name for herself as an actress. Her most famous role was in the popular USA show, Suits as Rachel Zane.

After stepping down as a senior royal, Meghan served as the narrator for the Disneynature’s, documentary, Elephant. Now, Meghan and Prince Harry are both expanding their influence in the entertainment industry. Variety reported that the pair have signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to make children’s series, feature films, documentaries, and scripted television shows for the popular streaming service.

“Harry and Meghan have inspired millions of people all around the world with their authenticity, optimism and leadership,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO and Chief Content Officer, shared in a statement. “We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home – and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere,” Sarandos continued about Meghan and Prince Harry.

The royal pair also released a statement of their own about why they’ve chosen to go this particular route. “Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection,” Prince Harry and Meghan penned. “Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.”

Prince Harry and Meghan also shared that having their son, Archie, has also taught them the value of family programming “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens. We are pleased to work with Ted and the team at Netflix whose unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.”

Clearly, stepping away from the Royal Family was just the tip of the iceberg for Prince Harry and Meghan. It seems like we’ll be hearing a lot more from them via entertainment and beyond. We’re sure royal fans can’t wait to see what they cook up with Netflix.
