Inside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Private Date Nights in California

Less than one year ago, whenever Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex left their home at Frogmore Cottage, they were scrutinized and analyzed to within an inch of their lives. As senior royals, they were kept on a tight schedule and they had to be very careful about everything they said or did, making sure that it adhered to royal protocol.

Now, their lives look drastically different. The Sussexes have exited the British royal family, moved to Santa Barbara, and outlined a bold new life for themselves with a mega-watt Netflix deal as advocates for change.

Though they still make headlines, their personal life has become extremely private. In fact, the royals often have date nights in their Montecito community where no one bothers them.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first date was super secretive

Meghan and Prince Harry didn’t use to have so much freedom. In fact, their very first date, which occurred back in the summer of 2016 was shrouded in secrecy.

The duo was set up on a blind date, reportedly by their mutual friend, Misha Nonoo when Meghan was visiting London for work. Due to Prince Harry’s status, the pair met at the ultra-exclusive Soho House’s Dean Street Townhouse. They returned again the next night.

In fact, the duo managed to keep their relationship under wraps for months until someone leaked it to the press, and Meghan was thrust in the midst of a media firestorm.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are thrilled to be living life on their own terms

After several years of living their lives in the spotlight where they were vulnerable to all kinds of scrutiny, the Sussexes have exited royal life for a quieter and more private life.

When the pair initially announced Megxit, they were told the lifestyle they desired was not achievable, but they’ve proved everyone wrong. “The couple had been thriving and have taken their careers as philanthropists to a whole other level,” royal biographer Omid Scobie explained on his podcast Heirpod. “It shows how much they were held back by tradition, hierarchy, and stubbornness within the institution. This is the couple operating in a way they were desperate to for some time but couldn’t for a number of reasons, many of which tie into what is considered too politically sensitive or not.”

From their own admission, the Sussexes appear to be living life on their own terms. “We are doing well. [Archie] is so good,” Meghan revealed on a video call with the Evening Standard. “We are very lucky with our little one. He is just so busy, he is all over the place. He keeps us on our toes. We are just so lucky.”

With Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland living with them part-time, the Sussexes have been able to enjoy date nights. Since their Santa Barbara community is so private, no one bothers them.

“Sometimes they do solo dates and sometimes with friends. No one really bothers them,” a source told People. Recently the pair were spotted on a double date with their friends  Katharine McPhee and David Foster where they appeared to have a wonderful time.
