Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Safety Will Be a Concern As They Spend the Holidays in the U.S.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will finally be getting some much-needed time away from the United Kingdom. The two are said to be spending the holidays stateside with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland. Though they’re likely excited for the much-needed break, the couple’s safety will be the main concern during their travels — though it’s not a royal engagement, the couple will be taking a very high-profile trip across the pond.
Meghan and Harry could use a break from the U.K.
Ever since Meghan and Harry wed, they have been hounded by the paparazzi for their every move. Specifically, Meghan can’t seem to catch a break from the negative media. When she first joined the royal family, the press dug into the duchess’ family life and exposed her troubled relationship with her father and half siblings. Then, there were rumors that she didn’t get along with Kate Middleton, she was rude to her staff, and she had no concern for royal rules and traditions. Now, the duke and duchess are clapping back at the media; they’ve filed a lawsuit against three major British tabloids. Needless to say, they could use some time away from the U.K.
The couple will reportedly be spending time with Meghan’s mother
A spokesperson for the royal family confirmed earlier this month that Meghan and Harry will be spending time away from the royals during the holidays. Normally, the royal family spends Christmas at Sandringham, Queen Elizabeth’s estate in Norfolk, but Meghan and Harry are doing things a bit differently this year. The decision received the queen’s approval, and Harry and Meghan will instead be coming to the United States to spend the holidays with Meghan’s mother. Doria lives in California, though it’s unclear right now if that’s where Harry and Meghan will be going.
Details are not being released in an effort to protect the couple’s safety
Though Meghan and Harry likely already know their exact holiday plan, the public will not be informed. Since this isn’t a royal engagement, it’s perfectly understood that the duke and duchess will want to remain quiet about their whereabouts. “For security reasons, we will not be providing further details on their schedule at this time,” the spokesperson told the media. Though Meghan and Harry are traveling for leisure, security measures are likely just as intense as when they’re traveling for a royal purpose. However, there is now the greater issue of privacy as well, since they won’t want to be disturbed on their time off.
Doria’s home doesn’t have nearly the same security as Frogmore Cottage
Right now, it’s unclear if Meghan and Harry will be staying in Doria’s home, but that’s typically how it works when families visit one another for the holidays. Of course, the royal family is no ordinary family, but should Meghan and Harry be staying with her, her house surely isn’t equipped with the same security as Frogmore Cottage. The Sussex team will likely have to put intense security measures in place wherever Harry and Meghan stay, but especially if they’re staying in Doria’s home. Right now, security is likely the most important detail the couple’s team will need to sort out before their holiday travels begin.
