Prince Harry Felt He and Meghan Markle Were Used by the British Royal Family, Book Explains
When Prince Harry met and began dating Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, their whirlwind romance swept him away. In fact, many people including his close friends and family believed that meeting Meghan changed the laidback and easy-going prince drastically.
Not only did Prince Harry come out defensively toward the media, but friends also claimed that he no longer wanted to hang out or be around them. In fact, several people including Prince William, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and one of the prince’s oldest friends cautioned him about moving too quickly with Meghan.
However, the truth of the matter seems to be that Prince Harry was struggling within the royal family for years, having Meghan by his side simply amplified things for him.
Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II had become increasingly concerned about Prince Harry
Though Prince Harry was obviously over the moon about marrying Meghan following their engagement, his behavior made Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles rather concerned.
Wedding planning is stressful for anyone, and the prince apparently did not handle it well. As Meghan struggled to adjust to life in the U.K., he felt helpless as the British press and public turned against her. In fact, in the months leading up to Megxit, the queen and Prince of Wales had grown extremly concerned about the Duke of Sussex. In her 2019 biography, Harry: Conversations with the Prince, Angela Levin wrote,
On many occasions, he has also seemed to be a shadow of himself: miserable, tense, sulky and even emasculated. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why, but perhaps all the changes Meghan has encouraged him to adopt have temporarily made him no longer feel quite himself. He also seems to be less active. In 2018 he only fulfilled 193 royal engagements compared to 507 undertaken by Prince Charles. He is emotionally vulnerable and has no wish to contradict a charismatic and extremely determined wife. I have been told from an insider that both the Queen and Prince Charles are very worried about him.
Prince Harry was unhappy in the royal family for years
Prince Harry’s reported misery in The Firm didn’t just arise in recent years. The duke has openly struggled with his role and position since the tragic death of his mother, Princess Diana. Though the late princess always made her son feel loved and equal, the prince has slipped into Prince William’s shadow in recent years.
“The truth is Harry had been unhappy for a long, long time,” the source told The Sun. “He wanted to move in the direction that they did and had been considering it for more than a year. Meghan supported Harry’s decision. But there was more than one occasion where she asked him if he was certain it was what he wanted. And she always made it clear she would support him in whatever he did.”
In the end, the only way for Prince Harry to define his life and destiny for himself was to say goodbye to royal life.
Prince Harry believes the royal family used him and Meghan Markle
One of the more stunning revelations in Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie’s best-selling tell-all book about the Sussexes, Finding Freedom is that the prince felt like the royal family used him and Meghan when they needed them, and discarded them when they did not.
Durand and Scobie wrote, “He felt at once used for their popularity, hounded by the press because of the public’s fascination with this new breed of royal couple, and disparaged back within the institution’s walls.”
