How Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Relationship Just Got Much More Serious

Although they’ve been an item for quite some time, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finally made things official with their first public appearance together in September 2017 at the semi-final rounds of the Invictus Games in Toronto.

The pair didn’t seem to mind if they were breaking royal protocol with their PDA-filled weekend and left many wondering if there could be another royal wedding in the near future. Here’s what we know about that and just how serious these two really are.

They’ve been together for a while

The prince and actress have actually been dating for a while. They reportedly met in May 2016 when Harry was in Toronto to launch the Invictus Games, and Markle was on location shooting the USA network show Suits.

Sources said the two started out as friends and then began texting one another regularly in June.

Prince Harry is so smitten with Markle that he already gave her a ring. Yes, the royal reportedly gifted his lady with a gold ring. However, before we book a flight to London and take bets on when the wedding will happen, we have to point out that it is not an engagement ring.

Markle has been seen wearing the gold band on her thumb. The ring was actually just one of a few pieces of jewelry Harry has spoiled her with.

One sign that you’re serious about someone is taking them home to meet the family and, yes, Markle has met several members of the royal family.

Harry reportedly introduced her to his father, Prince Charles, first when she visited the family’s estate in September 2016. Two months later, Markle met his brother, Prince William, and the Duchess of Cambridge in January 2017.

Another sign that we should prepare ourselves for a royal proposal soon? A source told E! News that Harry is more serious about Markle than any of his previous girlfriends and may be considering settling down with her.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s already thinking about engagement just because that’s where his head goes but that’s not where the relationship is at right now,” the source said. “This is totally Harry. The problem with Harry is when he falls, he falls hard. He goes in big time.”

Markle got candid about her relationship with the royal in the October 2017 issue of Vanity Fair when she revealed exactly how they feel about each other.

“We’re two people who are really happy and in love,” the actress told the magazine.

They showed some PDA during their first official public appearance together when they attended an Invictus Games event on Sept. 25, 2017.

Hand holding is something that is rarely seen with the royals, especially when they are debuting a new relationship, but did they really go against protocol? According to royal etiquette expert, Myka Meier, the answer is no.

“There is no actual etiquette or royal protocol that says the couple must refrain from PDA,” she said.

We know that Markle has already met Harry’s family, and during the Invictus Games, Harry was photographed with the actress’ mother, Doria Radlan.

The public sighting wasn’t the first time they met though. E! News noted that their first meeting was in 2016, and since then, they have gotten along great.

“Doria sees Harry as one of the family and he sees her like family too,” an insider told the media outlet.

Harry capped off the pair’s weekend during the closing ceremonies with a kiss.

The two were seen canoodling in their VIP box before Harry leaned in (not caring who was watching) and gave his girlfriend a quick peck on the cheek. So sweet!
