Why Does Prince Harry Look Miserable in Recent Photos With His Family?

Prince Harry has had a whirlwind couple of years. While he’s always been a well-known royal, he’s been thrust into the spotlight more than ever since he started dating American actress Meghan Markle. And Harry has never been one to love the spotlight. But recently, fans have noticed the prince never looks happy in photos with his family. What gives?

Harry has always disliked the fanfare that comes with being a royal

Ever since Harry was young, he hasn’t loved all of the attention that comes with being a part of the royal family. When his mother died, Harry walked behind her casket in a procession that was televised around the world. In a 2017 interview with Newsweek, he expressed how difficult it was to cope with both losing his mother and dealing with the media. And he still holds a grudge against the paparazzi because of his mother’s death. He has since learned to use his royal role for good, but his distaste toward the spotlight led him to lash out when he was young.

Fans couldn’t help but notice Harry looked miserable at Trooping the Colour

The Sussex Instagram account posted photos of the Trooping the Colour event from over the weekend (also known as the queen’s birthday celebration), and fans couldn’t help but notice that while Meghan was glowing, Harry looked like he wasn’t enjoying himself at all. “Is it just me or does Harry look really miserable,” one user wrote. The comment received hundreds of likes, suggesting that others felt the same way. “Harry didn’t look happy today,” someone else wrote. It was clear that people took notice of something seeming off with the usually-jovial prince.

The long nights with his new baby, plus the constant media attention, may contribute to his somber stare

While people may instantly assume the worst (no, Harry is probably not unhappy in his marriage), his somber expression can most likely be chalked up to long nights with a new baby, a lot of traveling, and the formality of the event. Harry served in the British military, and a large part of the queen’s celebration also involves the military; the British military is notorious for having serious facial expressions. While it was an exciting event that would normally warrant plenty of smiles, it’s possible there was something going on that just made it difficult for Harry to put on a happy face.

Harry and Meghan are doing their best to raise their baby as normally as possible

A big part of Harry’s serious expression could be that he has an aversion to the limelight. He and Meghan are taking measures to raise their child as normally as possible; they didn’t give Archie a royal title, and they moved to Frogmore Cottage with the hope of living a quieter life in the countryside. Harry has never been one to love photographs and attention, and as he gets older, that may start to show itself even more. Plus, it’s entirely possible that Archie kept him up all night. After all, he is trying to be a very hands-on father. Either way, Harry likely is still the jolly prince we know and love, even if he has a few bad days now and then.
