Prince Harry Tried to Meet With Queen Elizabeth Before Announcing His Resignation but He Was Blocked

The British royal family is currently trying to figure out the next steps following the Sussexes’ shocking resignation last week. In case you aren’t sure what’s going on — Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry dropped a bombshell when they announced they would be stepping aside as senior members of the royal family.

The duo also announced that they would be splitting their time between the U.K. and North America and that they would essentially be living life on their own terms from here on out.

Many royal fans had suspected something like this was amiss, however, they were still taken aback but the sudden announcement. The royals apparently had no clue it was coming. In fact, when Prince Harry tried to give Queen Elizabeth II a heads-up, he was denied access to his grandmother.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are done with royal life

From the constant scrutiny to the bullying, racism, and sexism — Markle and Prince Harry have had to endure a lot of abuse from the British press and public. Deciding that it’s no way to live or raise a family, the duo is stepping away.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” the Sussexes said in a statement. “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

This nearly broke the internet.

Prince Harry was blocked from speaking with his grandmother about his resignation

Though Prince Harry and Markle’s plan seems drastic, the pair did discuss it with the royal family prior to the holidays. They were told to come up with a plan. The Sussexes did just that and submitted the plan to Prince Charles. The Prince of Wales then told his son that he needed more time to consider the plan.

At that point, Prince Harry tried to go directly to the queen with the plan. Though the queen initially agreed to a meeting, Prince Charles and palace courtiers apparnely blocked the meeting.

Ultimately, the prince felt like he could not wait for the sake of his wife’s mental well-being. “The statement was rushed out and part of the reason for that is that Harry knew he needed to take swift action,” an insider told The Sun. “Meghan has not settled in the U.K. and he knows that and wants her to be happy…He feared staying in the U.K. too long would lead to Meghan having a meltdown.”

The British royal family is currently carving out a plan for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

It seems that Markle and Prince Harry’s announcement has forced the royals to act quickly. Though the duchess has fled the hysteria and the brutal British press for Canada to be with her infant-son, Archie Harrison and her loved ones, Prince Harry is currently at the queen’s Sandrigum estate hammering out a plan.

In addition to the Duke of Sussex and the queen — Prince William and Prince Charles are also present at this meeting with Markle joining on the phone.

“Following a series of meetings and consultations across the last few days, there is a range of possibilities for the family to review which take into account the thinking the Sussexes outlined earlier in the week,” a royal source told People. ” As we have said previously, making a change to the working life and role of the monarchy for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex requires complex and thoughtful discussions. Next steps will be agreed at the meeting. The request for this to be resolved ‘at pace’ is still Her Majesty’s wish. The aim remains days not weeks. There is genuine agreement and understanding that any decision will take time to be implemented.”
