Prince Harry Reveals He Was Always Teased At School For This Odd Habit
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are environmental activists who have spoken out about global warming and slowing the effects of climate change. At times the couple has been criticized for not practicing what they preach but for anyone who thinks Harry only started taking up environmental causes after meeting his wife, that’s not the case.
Harry’s dad, Prince Charles, is the one who instilled in him the importance of protecting the planet. Observing his father’s efforts taught Harry to do something that seemed totally normal to him but other kids in his school found very odd. Here’s the habit the Duke of Sussex learned from Charles that he was picked on for.
The habit Harry was teased for
“He took us litter picking when we were younger, on holiday. We were in Norfolk on school holidays, and we went out litter picking with him,” Prince William explained. “We thought this is perfectly normal, everyone must do it. We were there with our spikes stabbing the rubbish into black plastic bags.”
Harry then admitted, “I used to get taken the mickey out of at school for just picking up rubbish. When you go for walks anywhere, if you see something, it stands out, you pick it up. Before you know it, somebody says, ‘What are you doing?’ I’ve literally done this because I am programmed to do it because my father did it. And actually, we should all be doing it.”
The Duke of Sussex added that he picked another habit from Prince Charles.
“He’s a stickler for turning lights off,” Harry said. “And that’s now something that I’m obsessed with as well. My wife certainly goes, ‘Well, why turn the lights off? You know, it’s dark.’ I go, ‘We only need one light, we don’t need like six.’”
What he and Markle never use anymore
One thing Prince Charles did years ago that Harry would never do today is put the litter into plastic bags because he and Markle don’t use plastic.
Last summer, the royal’s friend, polo star Nacho Figueras, told CBS This Morning that the prince refused to use those products when hotel staffers brought them to his room.
“He was there and we were at the hotel where we spent the night before the game,” Figueras said. “He talked to a person and said ‘this morning I got my coffee and I saw that you have a plastic thing on the coffee. And then I also sent my shirt and I got my shirt in a big plastic bag.’”
Figueras revealed that after that the prince said to the hotel employees, “Can we please not use the plastic?”
