Are Prince William and Kate Middleton Good After the 2019 Affair Rumors? Why the Future Could Bring Damaging Effects
As the year is winding down it’s safe to assume that it’s one Prince William and Kate Middleton would like to forget.
Much of 2019 was filled with rumors of a rift between William and his brother, which Prince Harry confirmed, as well as reports that the future king cheated on his wife, which has never been confirmed. While there’s no proof of the latter, the allegations still could bring some devasting effects for the Cambridges in the future.
How the affair rumors came out
The unsubstantiated claims that Prince William allegedly had an affair with Middleton’s friend, Rose Hanbury, came out after a British tabloid published a story that the two women had a falling out.
What their alleged feud was over has never been made public but there were rumblings that even though the Duchess of Cambridge knew the rumors were untrue she was furious that they were out at all. Therefore, she decided to cut the Marchioness of Cholmondeley out of her life.
A source close to Middleton told Us Weekly that when the rumors started making headlines all over the globe “it forced her and William to sit back and examine their relationship, which they realized they should have been doing more often.”
Prince William threatened legal action
The affair allegations were particularly concerning for the Duke of Cambridge since they threatened to shatter his image as a family man.
On April 9, 2019, the Daily Beast noted that William’s attorneys sent letters to media outlets in the U.K. with a warning not to report on any of the allegations.
“In addition to being false and highly damaging, the publication of false speculation in respect of our clients’ private life also constitutes a breach of his privacy pursuant to Article 8 of the European Convention to Human Rights,” the letter from the law firm Harbottle and Lewis stated.
Threatening legal action seemed to halt reports in the U.K. but the rumors had circulated enough and had become public knowledge at that point.
Devastating future effects the rumors could have
A royal source revealed what really bothers Middleton is how her family can be affected by these “hurtful” rumors in the future if Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis see these reports someday.
“[She] hates the thought that one day her children will be able to read about them online,” the insider said.
Until there is any evidence William cheated on his wife, we can only continue to call this what it is: a rumor. And if the Cambridge kids do read about it when they’re older it will give the duke and duchess an opportunity to teach them a lesson about how stories even if untrue can still get printed in the news.
