Prince William and Kate Middleton Just Showed Off Their Playful Sense of Humor and Honestly, It’s So Refreshing

There’s been so much doom and gloom in the British royal family recently that fans were relieved to see a bright spot of humor peeking through. After a relentless onslaught of bad press, including Prince Andrew’s disastrous Newsnight interview and Prince Harry’s increasing hostility toward the media, this small moment of lightheartedness was sorely needed.

The funny anecdote comes courtesy of Prince William and Kate Middleton, who have both been avoiding negativity even when it tries to sneak up on them. The future king and his bride seem happier and more confident than ever, even in spite of those pesky infidelity rumors from earlier this year.

Will the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge save the monarchy with their cheeky sense of humor and down-to-earth personalities that fans adore? It’s starting to look that way.

Camila Cabello stole a pencil from Kensington Palace

The whole story started when Camila Cabello made a somewhat shocking revelation. The former Fifth Harmony singer revealed during an interview with BBC Radio 1 that she once stole something from Kensington Palace because of a dare.

Apparently, radio host Chris James dared Cabello to steal something no one would miss. They landed on stealing a pencil. But even though she almost got away with it, James made a spectacle of the whole thing.

“And then,” Cabello said, “You [James], to one of the palace people, called me out on it, and were like, ‘She stole a pencil!’ And I was like, ‘Oh, my God.’ And I put it in my mom’s purse, and my mom was like, ‘No, we have to give it back. We have to give back the pencil.’”

Cabello publicly apologized to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Obviously, the whole thing was silly and fun. Cabello did exit the premises with the pencil, but she did apologize for the whole thing. “So, I’m sorry. I still have it,” she said during the interview. “I’m sorry, William, and I’m sorry, Kate.”

But the best part of this whole thing was Prince William and Kate Middleton’s reaction. Rather than ignoring the trivial matter, they gave the best reaction to Cabello’s interview clip on Twitter.

Will and Kate displayed their fun side on Twitter

Their reaction to the tweet didn’t have any words — it just showed an emoji of two big eyes meant to convey surprise. They couldn’t have picked a better reaction to Cabello’s admission.

And this isn’t the first time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge showed off their ability to roll with the punches and have fun doing so. When Princess Charlotte got caught sticking out her tongue at the adoring crowd earlier this year, Kate Middleton quickly laughed it off instead of getting angry. It all just proved how chill she is in public.

Laughter is exactly what the monarchy needs right now

As people start asking big questions about what’s next for the monarchy and if they’ll survive the multiple PR crises of 2019, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s laughter is the exact antidote to the total destruction of the family legacy.

Queen Elizabeth worked hard to build up the royal image to what it is today. Now it’s looking like Prince William will be crucial to bringing it back to where it once was.
