Prince William and Kate Middleton Rekindled Romance After Breakup When They Heard Their Favorite Song at a Party

Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge are married, have three children, and seem to be living happily ever after these days but their relationship didn’t always mirror a fairy tale. In fact, they broke up a couple of times before they tied the knot.

Here’s more on their breakups and how they really rekindled their romance after hearing a certain song at a party.

Why William and Kate broke up

The now-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met in college at St. Andrews University and started dating in the early 2000s. However, they broke up for the first time in 2004 and there have been several different theories about why they split.

In the book titled The Duchess of Cambridge: How Kate Middleton Became A Future Queen, author Jessica Jayne wrote that the pair ended things back then because William was feeling “claustrophobic” in the relationship.

Former Sun editor Duncan Larcombe believes they separated for a different reason. In his book William & Kate: The Journey, he opined that the fact that Middleton’s mother, Carole, was once a flight attendant did not sit well with some in William’s inner circle. Duncan wrote that because of her mother’s one-time profession, people would call Kate “doors to manual” whenever they saw her and eventually urged the prince to break up with her.

Will and Kate got back together only to split again in 2007. That breakup was also brief and made them realize how much they wanted to be together.

Sparks flew again when their favorite song played at party

After calling it quits again in the spring of 2007, Kate and William were photographed smiling while out and about living the single life. But reports swirled that the prince was secretly trying to win her back.

“They secretly met up at Clarence House and at a pub close to Highgrove, where William told her he wanted to get back together,” royal correspondent Katie Nicholl explained. “Kate didn’t want to rush anything. She had been badly hurt and told William she needed some time.”

By June, there were reports they reunited at a costume party and were rumored to be working things out.

The following month they were spotted together at a party and when one of their favorite tracks “I Like The Way (You Move)” by Bodyrockers played, there was no denying the status of their relationship.

According to the Daily Mail, William and Kate hit the dance floor then heading off to a corner alone where they sipped cocktails, kissed, and whispered into each other’s ears.

Happily ever after

After that evening they didn’t leave each other’s side and in 2010, William popped the question. The couple reflected on their time apart during their post-engagement interview.

“We were both very young,” the prince said. “We were sort of both finding ourselves as such and being different characters and stuff, it was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up.”

Kate chimed in adding, “I think at the time I wasn’t very happy about it, but actually, it made me a stronger person.”

The duke and duchess tied the knot on April 29, 2011. Two years later they welcomed Prince George, followed by Princess Charlotte in 2015 and Prince Louis in 2018.
