Prince William and Kate Middleton Capitalized off of Megxit, Expert Says

It’s no secret that when Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex were working members of the British royal family, they dominated the news cycle. Fans, experts, and haters alike were all swept away by the red-headed prince and his dazzling American wife.

Unfortunately, this meant that Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, the future Crowned King, and Queen Consort were thrust into the background. Though the two are still beloved members of the royal family, the work that they were doing no longer seemed to take precedent.

Now, amid Megxit and Prince Andrew’s scandal, Kate and Prince William are center stage once again. One royal expert feels that the duo has capitalized off of Megxit in the smartest way.

Megxit left the royal family in a precarious situation

Though the Cambridges seem lovely enough, and they have three adorable children, it can be argued that they don’t have that “Marke Sparkle” that Meghan brought to the royal family.

With the Sussexes leaving The Firm, the Cambridges seemed to understand that the royal family could quickly lose the interest that has been surrounding them for the past several years. Kate, in particular, needed to step into the role she’s been preparing for.

“Harry and Meghan leaving the firm has left a void and I think the royal family were at risk of looking out of touch and dowdy without them,” royal historian Sarah Gristwood told Vanity Fair. “With Charles and Camilla over 70, and Anne about to get there, and the Queen scaling back, there is a serious vacuum when it comes to star appeal at the heart of the royal family. This is Kate’s moment to shine.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton have shaken things up since Megxit

The Cambridges are still very much holding onto the traditions of royal life. However, after reflecting on some of the things the Sussexes did well, they are shifting some things. Royal expert Leslie Carroll told Express,

In Meghan’s absence, and particularly during the coronavirus lockdown, Kate has been compelled to step to the forefront a lot more. Even from behind her keyboard and computer screen, she has become more visible and accessible. She is naturally more diffident than Meghan; the openness with strangers doesn’t come naturally to her, although she can speak candidly on subjects close to her heart, such as parenting.

Prince William and Kate also seem to be rethinking how they interact with the press, something the Sussexes had been campaigning for prior to Megxit.

This is how Kate Middleton and Prince Wiliam capitalized on Megxit

The Cambridges have truly used Megxit as an opportunity to reframe the royal family, in a way that will help them in the future.

“Despite all the noise around Harry and Meghan, the reality is William and Kate have got a pretty important job to do,” royal expert Duncan Larcombe told True Royalty TV. “This is giving them space, and to some extent the Prince Andrew ongoing Epstein saga, it is giving William and Kate the space to focus on the job they’ve got to do. And I think at the moment, they are doing very well.”

The pair are being extra careful about how they move. “The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be watching very carefully,” royal author Tom Quinn told Daily Mail. “Especially given that younger royals in the past have got things very badly wrong and they don’t want that to happen again.”
